I have a 32-track hard- disk recording set up..and a room full of guitars, drums, keyboards etc...and so we begin to discover a lot more in common, eh Gaz? Frustratingly, I'm the only one playing them here at the moment, although my brother came over from America lately for a bash and a twang. I'm also in complete agreement about contact cleaners/ compressed air cans etc.. I've saved my electronic bacon so many times by using them..and those damned noisy panpots on my old Fender, and one of my basses, miraculously returned to 'noiseless' for recording purposes by a liberal sloshing of contact cleaner..
Right, well it's back to tanks now  ere I begin to ramble too..

.. :shh: :shh: :shh: I also have an old Teac A3440 4-channel multi-tracker form the 1970s (state of the art then). It takes 10in NAB reels and goes up to 15ips. I also have a Teac (cassette) 4-Ch Portastudio for legacy stuff..
Korg 3200 recorder; Alesis - reverb and compression; three basses; Ovation and Danelectro (electric) 12-strings; fender Strat and much more. I mostly write and record my own music when not fiddling with tanks.. ,
but play anything from folk-rock through to Captain Beefheart, bits of jazz, Beatles, Joan Armatrading, and 60s 70s rock...and lots of eclectic styles.
I saw Floyd, Zeppelin, Genesis, Hendrix, and many more live in the late 60s and early 70s.. I stress live because an alarming number of them are dead now, or look like they've been preserved in formaldehyde (Keith Richard..for example..)
But now i totally digress :shifty:

Do you see what I mean about introducing yourself,?
I am the proud owner of a left handed Stratocaster "Blackie" and one of the best concerts I went to was at the "Blumenhalle" Dortmund in the 60s to see the Stones,
A smokey atmosphere with an aroma that in my later travels I realised was Marijuana :shh:
Ahh the heady innocent days of youth.
I Still have a great love of Chicago Blues but I never have got on with roll ups.
Welcome to the Forum

Jimi H died on my Birthday ! Inconsiderate blighter. Used to play Hey Joe, Red house, little wing, Wind cried Mary, when I was with the last band. list is endless, and starts to grow the more I think about it.
Had a foray into folk music for a while - did Girvan folk festival, and a few local ones. (Irish Jigs n reels - fast stuff). I was on mandolin then, as there were too many guitars ! Good times. Loads o' Guinness. Recently had the task of mixing for a local covers band. that was fun. BUT....Like everything else these days - time never seems to allow.(Model planes haven't seen the light for nigh on 2 years - and I keep paying my subs !) Always at work when the weather seems fit. Great to know great minds think alike though eh ! Anyway, hoping to strip our Tigger tonight (If I don't get jobbed again !) Who can recommend a good lube for the Gun Mechanism ? I have 3 in 1, and all sorts of other stuff.(I treated the main gearbox gears with a bit of Vaseline, which seems fine.(This was after I found the port drive cog loose,(Usual culprit) and found the output shaft had excessive play. One of the plastic bearings in the box had split/ collapsed ! I machined a new one from a piece of nylon. Sorted. we only run on the patio, or the(Ardennes) lawn when cut. Soon as I get it all functional again, I'm going to start weathering. (May as well while she's field stripped!) then you can have some pics.
There ya go - I'm back on subject again.

I use
"WD40 Specialist Anti Friction DRY PTFE Lubricant"
It comes in a 400ml Aerosol spray can with an extended nozzle,
After a light spray I am able to spin a 5/1 Walterson Brass gearbox with my fingers and there is no contamination of the surrounding area, and the near by electrics are safe.
I got it from AMAZON/E-BAY,
Do be wary of similar titled WD 40 products, it can be confusing and easy to get the wrong item.
I do enjoy JIMI H, but the one album that disappointed me was the less than perfect "blues",
BUT I forgive him everything when I hear his interpretation of "The Star Spangled Banner" as played at Woodstock by a man who many people at the time who did not know his background thought he played it because he hated the USA when in fact being an ex Marine it was played from the heart remembering lost comrades. Hero.

Thanks Sean. That's one I don't own.will buy some ( might have to chuck something out of my oils cupboard for it to fit in though ! haha.)
Experience was my favourite Album. I also like BB king (Used to play "Paying the cost to be the Boss". cool style. R.I.P.BB)
some Stevie ray stuff I like to dabble with too. "Pride and Joy, and "Lenny" are my two. just starting to try some Jazz.(Chemical H bought me a cheap jazz Archtop for our 30th this year - "Rocket Music " in white ?!?!?! but sounds nice. Amazon - WAS £135, think it's gone back to full price now though) just about sussed "Take 5" by Dave Brubeck. Not particularly my style, but hey - it's all good practice. Ooh - just remembered - Back to the Strat for "Shine on you crazy Diamond" - just for the intro and them 4 notes ! Desk has a brilliant reverb for that sound. She normally stops me repeating it after about 30 mins ! lol. Screw the cans, whack the amp on !
Behave ! It's s'pose- to be about Tanks - if I'm not wrong ! haha

Don't talk to me about Jazz,
In my youth prior to joining the forces I was formally trained in playing stringed instruments ,Cello, Violin and reading and studying musical theory,
It is not easy to extemporise with that sort of background but I do have an incentive,
An elderly long haired gentleman of my acquaintance and two friends play freeform jazz, he on Piano accompanied by a bass and drums,
I have been expected to put in my ten pen orth on the rare gig,
The incentive ?
The elderly long haired gentleman is my uncle and he owns a very well fitted out music shop and getting 10 % off new strings and a good deal on a decent Amp and other odds and ends is worth having to pay the price of surrendering my sense of what they call rhythm and I call lousy timing.

Large LOL !
Understood - fully.

Lube ordered for pickup from Halfords tonight on way home. £4.99. Yes - it is the right one. we do have it at work, but ours is NOT the DRY one ! (Expletives !) hay ho.
Freeform eh ! I'll save that for the next life! I'm far from talented me. resorted to the old "Just for fun" scenario. That way you are more forgiven for a few(hundred) bum notes! (Arthritic joints in me knuckles doesn't help. Too many years on the big spanners have taken their toll) Actually - I think I'm dropping to bits. Mirrors are banned. period !
But I ain't giving in. too much in the loft to be just decorative.
