Tanks servicing

Good afternoon.

After having lots of fun with me two tanks this summer they are both starting to show a few problems, any and all advice appreciated.

Torro Stug III...the gun is starting to stick in the recoiled position, leaving the tank repeatedly firing and leaping around till it jiggles free. Do I oil where the barrel slides inside itself or the mechanism itself or both???
Also a few parts have fallen off, snapped at their lugs , will ordinary plastic solvent glue work well or is there a magical, only the experts know about type of glue?

Hen Long KV 1, either the Stug isn't transmitting a infrared beam, I can't shoot to save me life (probable), or the KV infrared detector ain't working, is there an easy test, all wires seem to be in place. It's just makes me so very proud watching me son always scoring hits against me...or is that depressed?

And lastly, since I've got the tanks apart, gearbox's, oil, grease, old Mas' goose fat...any recommendations or is it best to leave alone?

Thanks in advance.

Bill

I come from a plastic modelling background, and if you're hoping to refit broken parts, it would be best to drill out a hole, insert a brass rod and use that as a peg to improve the joint. A bit of epoxy glue is also more resilient than liquid glue that's normally used on styrene too. Just make sure the joints are clean & grease free when you apply it :)

I'll leave others to deal with your mechanicals, but I'll be watching with interest. B|

Hi Bill, I think just about everyone in this hobby has tried every adhesive available and I have given up hope of finding the ideal,
Loctite is always worth having in the workshop but Superglue is the usual fall back, although where possible the engineer in me taps threads and that way I am better able to remove/replace broken or worn out parts and of course "Neodymiun Magnets come in many shapes and sizes and can often take the place of Glue,
www.first4magnets.com
As to lubricating your gearboxes I use
"WD40 Specialist Anti-Friction Dry PTFE Lubricant"
which is a bit specialist and takes some searching out but a 250ml spray can costs about £5 and is brilliant, I can spin my Waltersons over by gripping the sprocket and twisting.
Highly recommended.
Shaun.

The Torro and HL use different IR signals so they can't be used to battle each other so if that's what your attempting your aim isn't the problem.

Thanks for all the answers.

Some great help there...I guess I know what I'm doing over the weekend :)

Pity about the diff IR signals, any suggestions about changing over one or both, is there a better IR system out there than either of the ones I've got, better range and detection?

If you can wield a soldering iron your battle system answer could be in this thread

Thanks for that Del, happy to wave a soldering iron around, but when it comes to actually using it my daughter is better than me...just don't tell her I said so :)

Nice tip if you want to be sure the InfraRed is, indeed, transmitting: Use the camera of a smartphone. They "see" infrared.
