My electric drill Nicads finally decided not to hold a charge, and it was either buy new ones, or a new drill. Both options were expensive as I rarely use it. I then had a thought, two 7.2v Nimh batteries = 14.4v?

I pulled off the old Nicad unit, took the drill apart, and soldered a Tamiya connector onto the terminals inside the handle.
Then I soldered two Nimh batteries together in serial.

Plugged it in and it works.

I will make a neater job of it one day.

Only snag now is, can I charge a 14.4v battery pack from a 7.2v charger??

Tape two chargers together? Worked for the batteries......

You must have Giant hands.

Rob most smart chargers will do 14,4 volts if it will do a 4s lipo it will charge the 14,4

I only have a standard peak detect charger for Nimh's as I don't use Lipo's at all.

(Love the tape two chargers comment - lolol)

My guess is that if my chargers detects 8.4v then it won't charge 14.4v. The other option is to use a link cable in place of solder so that I can unlink them and charge them seperately.

Hi Rob some Nihm packs go upto 14,4 v give it a try on the peak charger will either work or start alarm beeping,dont think you can damage either.
