My personal favorite is the Visaton FRS 8. But the Visaton R10S 4 inch will fit in a KT, Tiger and some other tanks. Actually I think even the little Stug may be wide enough. The speaker is low profile and has really great sound and loud. It is used in rc airplanes. I think it may have less bass than the FRS8 but maybe worth trying as it is only about $ 10 or so. I even used the box in came in as an airtight speaker box and it works well.

Hi

i have used several visaton, from 5 to 7 cm, but i ended using 85mm speakers with technic plastic cone (mylar). The visaton sounds great but the paper cone always ends damaged and you have to replace the speaker.

best regards

You can always put a protective mesh over the speaker cone. Also if possible always make an airtight speaker box not just a loose speaker an enclosure traps the back pressure and gives a much better/louder/deeper sound.

hi tao

damaging the paper cone with something impacting it it's not the problem (protective mesh reason of use), I've bass boxes build for the speakers on my tanks, the paper cone will be damaged through normal operation by his own vibrations after a long time of use.

After i took the mylar cone way i didn't looked back ;)

best regards

EDIT

this is the speaker i'm using now

That looks like a good choice too! Though I have never had an issue with the Visaton's.. also with an amp to boost the volume I like the constant capacity of the speaker not to be working near the max range. For instance the FRS8 is max 50 watts but can run at 30 steady so 10-15 watts is not an issue.

Note sealed enclosure adds a precision to the sound but take a bit more power as the back pressure is in flux. Ported speakers though can be louder than sealed. This whole thing really is an art/science for sure! I have found for these smaller speakers in the tanks a sealed enclosure adds punch and sound clarity. But it's all what sounds best for each person. Plus the sound file itself.. like certain music.. can work better though one type of speaker or another as well. Like ..The FRS 10..it produces smooth and clean sound..the FRS 8 a bit heavier so all depends on what fits the ear:)
