Tomorrow is the 8th May which marks the end of the Second World War in Europe 64 years ago.
To all those who fought and died we salute you.
"They shall grow not old as we that are left grow old:
Age shall not weary them,
nor the years condemn.
At the going down of the sun and in the morning
We will remember them.â€

Hi Andy Quite right to we should not forget the sacrifice the men and woman made during the war .
Here is another thought for you in France the 8th of May is a national holiday as is the 11th of November. Why is it we dont have them , then we too could honour the fallen .At 11am every Mayor of every town will be laying a wreath at the memorial to the fallen ,on both dates it should be the same here.
regards pete

I totally agree thanks to the campaign some years ago we honour the minutes silence actually on the 11th now where it used to be only remembrance sunday. Maybe we can start a campaign here to get peoples support to honour by respecting a minutes silence to the end of the war in Europe and Japan.

In Canada November 11th is a National holiday. We honor the fallen of both wars on that day. It does seems a little strange that something to mark the end of WWII was not considered.
War for the Allies was not over until Japan surrendered though, so that is the day that should be marked as a Holiday IMO.
Regardless VE day is special, and I agree we need to be respectful of the lives lost in the battle for Europe. I am 3/4 of the way through the Band of Brothers CD set, and the hell people were forced to go through is worth remembering. Some remarkable self sacrifice was displayed for the liberation of Europe.

We will remember them.
Our Government is good to call out people to sacrifice their lives in war, but they are poor when it comes to remembering the same people who gave their todays for our tomorrows, we should have both VE day and VJ day as well as the 11th as public holidays to remember the fallen, and those that went through so much for us to live in the world as we know it today.

Freedom isn't Free, these men and women gave their lives so that we would live in a free society. However, many of our countrymen in our respective countries are dishonoring their memory. They're allowing people who share the same ideology that their sacrifice helped defeat rule our lands and chip away at our freedoms. If we don't stop them now, the liberty that we enjoy may not be experienced by our grandchildren.
God Bless all of the Fallen, God Bless my fellow Tankers!
