ARMAGEDDON (NOT)

Well what in interesting night I spent watching the referendum results and waiting with dread for the sun not to come up, the plague of locusts to descend, and the crowd of zombies to run amuck on the streets, and funnily enough none of that has happened!! I thought I saw the four horsemen flying over this morning but it was just the after effects of the red wine consumed combined with some funny-looking clouds.

I would dearly love for the investment bankers who short sold the pound in the early hours of the morning to be taken out and put in stocks in trafalgar square but that's not going to happen either!!

I feel dreadfully sorry for Cameron who I think did his best despite the stupid scaremongering tactics but we can all look forward now to getting back to our usual pastime of tank modelling and playing with our toys without having to listen to hours of drivel and doomsaying from the so-called political pundits.

Onwards and upwards chaps!!    Alwyn

Yes there is that.... but personally I'm willing to bet that the £ will be pretty much back to where it was at 1.30 euro to the £ within 2 weeks, once all these w******s - sorry, bankers finish lining their pockets at our expense. Alwyn

Thanks B_Man, but I think it's the EU who really are going to need the luck to survive this debacle, it couldn't happen to a more deserving bunch of eurocrats. Wonder where they are going to find the £10 billion net that we usually shell out to support that mess annually. I think the multitude of eurocrats might have to travel business class or god forbid - Economy!!! The airlines will go out of business!!! ALwyn

It does make me laugh when you see the headlines in the UK. The truth is that all markets took a pounding, and that investors moved their funds into gold, US Treasury Bonds, and the Yen. They are considered safe havens, even though they are not high earners. Financial people do not like uncertainty, and all financial markets are linked electronically. There isn't a guy sat there with a pencil trying to figure out what to buy and sell, the decisions are made by IT systems that have thresholds built in. When the system spots a trend it buys and sells accordingly, if one system does it, they all do it, and you get this domino effect.

At some point the systems will reverse the trend, and the markets will bounce back up and normality will resume. This will happen because there will come a point when stocks are so cheap that they are a good buy, then the profiteers move in, they buy and sell all the way on the up escalator, making a profit each time. It's what they do (I used to work in the business, designed part of the UK Stock Exchange systems, as well as stuff that goes on that no one ever even realises exists).

Look at it logically, absolutely no one knows what the future trade deals will be, or how much better off we will be. We haven't even left the EU yet, it still has to be passed through Parliament, and as over 60% of politicians wanted to remain, anything could happen, the market collapses aren't due to 'the UK is finished' they are due to 'don't know what will happen so we will put our money somewhere safe until it is'. The media does not employ people who know what they are talking about, journalists are not that bright, they wouldn't be journalists if they were.

What was interesting was that last night before I went to bed, the media was stating as a fact that the Remain vote would win. The bookies were taking bets on that basis, and the Leave camp were stating that Remain would win. I get up this morning and its a total reversal.

The English vote was much higher in favour of Leave, it only appeared close because Scotland had a clean sweep on the Remain, and their vote was of course counted in the overall figures.

As for the currency and tanks, sterling dropped 8% against the Euro, that is only 8p in the pound, or £8 in £100, or £16 in £200 etc. It's hardly earth shattering, and with the comparatively small amounts we spend it's no more noticeable than the price differences between suppliers. A lot of the goods we buy from Europe come from China??

I just bought an Elmod board, I was watching the £/Euro for a couple of weeks, but figured out that although the media was declaring turmoil the total cost of the board including postage was hardly changing at all. I ordered one regardless and any difference due to exchange rates was not going to break the bank in any way.

As for HSBC, Goldmann Sachs, JP Morgan, who all said that they would leave the UK if there was a Brexit, they have all rescinded those statements this morning.

The AUD$ to the (no computer key for it) GBP , I gains 2 pence to the dollar :eh:

So the Sturmtiger bargains that are on here now dropped by stuff all !

The longer term effects of the withdrawal from the cluster-F thats is the EU will take a while to bear, but they will come.
Mr Wobblys right, the Aussie stock market had 50 Billion wiped off it, but that will return .
The trade ministers from every nation will emulate the locust plague as they descend on London for free trade talks now they arent fighting subsidised markets.

Democracy-good or bad long term, is what the forebears fought and died for, and its good to see it in action.

Hi Alwyn ,I do think in a few days the profit takers will finish and the pound will level off as will the stock markets .Then its time to start the split ,in the words of Larry Grayson SHUT THAT DOOR, also zip up the purse strings. Sharpen the scissors to cut up the red tape.

regards pete

P.S. it looks like we are going to need a load of bricklayers to re-build the wall between England and Scotland they want to split from us now this is becoming the neverendom

Hi Pete the Scottish thing is very interesting, I don't think Nicola Sturgeon has factored into her thinking that she has what will be the very tiniest population in the EU (3 million people +/) and will have absolutely negligible negotiating strength in the EU, plus how will scotland finance it's free university education/free prescription/generous pensions with minimal income from oil and gas without contributing to the EU budget?? - this does not compute! I really wish that politicians were required to have common sense before they can ask to be elected. :wtf:  Alwyn
