Tiger Tank Colour

Post by fury »

Hello I am pondering about the colour to airbrush my HL Tiger 1 Tank, I will admit I do like the grey colour some Tiger Tanks were painted but not sure about which greys would work best and also does any of the nice forum members have pictures or have sprayed a Tiger Tank grey.

If you have a look at my Tiger build in the Tamiya thread, it's painted grey, using Tamiya rattle cans.

The grey is not easy to get right,
Tamiya paint German Grey seems to be fine, but it is a bit blue over red primer.
That calms down once sealed & weathered.
Grey Tigers were fsirly new to the field, so wouldn't have heaps of damage or rusting, plenty had a cost of white wash in the winter out East!
Some had dark yellow patches over the grey, so you have plenty of options

I once tried "HUMBROL" Tank Grey, It was very similar to the TAMIYA with a feint blue tinge, most disappointing,
BUT I then tried "HUMBROL" SEA GREY number 27 and it really does look just right.
If you are using rattle cans then this would be the product I would recommend.
Shaun.
I think I am about to upset someone :haha:

Hey Fury, are you working to model a particular tank. Or just like the grey look?

Hi Estnische not modelling a particular Tiger this time around all I want for my first build is a really great looking Tiger with all the fixes I can carry out. I do remember that there were some Tigers that were painted grey but this did not last long. I like the look of the grey tanks and not because its easier to spray. :haha:
