Heng Long Challenger Recoil ideas

Hi all,
Curious to know all the HL Challenger owners out there, what is your plan for the recoil ? I have initially thought about cutting the barrel just before the ribbed cover, but then realized that it is going to look funny since the ribbed cover should retract as part of the recoil. So now I am searching for material to simulate the ribbed cover. So far I have come up with cable management tubes, bike suspension cover, small vaccum hose. dgsselkirk even suggested large bendable straws. I have also considered paper material as that would be much more flexible and less work on the servo.
The diameter of the Heng Long plastic gun tube at that point is about 17mm........I think a slightly larger diameter won't be too distracting, so anything under 20mm I will consider.
Any advice would be welcome !
