Good afternoon from Guernsey

Good morning

I am new to RC and new to large scale modelling of any sort.

I started out 35 years ago with 1/76th railways, branched out into 1/72th planes and tanks, and having been tempted by an RC tank from a cheapo website, I looked for others and now have a Heng Long Leopard.

I'm here to look for advice on things I can't do yet and better ways to do things I already do, so I'll go to the appropriate forums to find out or ask.

Tom

Welcome. Since joining I've asked ever increasingly stupid questions and the members here remain always helpful.

Hi and welcome, I only ever went to Guernsey once and that was back in 2005? I drove my 4x4 off the ferry and was directed into an empty warehouse whilst I noticed various armed police/customs eyed me from a distance. One approached me and asked umpteen questions about why I was there, which I thought was a bit odd seeing as we were on a day trip from Weymouth? He asked me to open the back up, which was empty apart from a shopping bag with duty free's in it.

Lots more questions, and all a bit weird, then he says we can go.

When I got home after the holiday I took a casual look at a Guernsey website, and discovered a photo of customs guys pinning a team of chaps out of a 4x4 on the ground, with guns pointed at their heads.

I then realised that they had had a tip off and thought that me and the girlfriend were part of a jewel heist!

Anyway, enjoy the Leopard, it's a good tank! :P

We do like to welcome our visitors... differently... in Guernsey. Not much crime though, so we can get quite excited when we do get some!

Go your hardest Mr Bomp, any choice is a good choice when it comes to these R/C tank thingos we like so much.
You're from a smal island, so am I.
New Zealand and the Home Islands share a lot of similar traits.
Rain, cold, fog, cold, spectacular coasts, more rain, actual green grass(not like here in Australia) and a rural outlook that lends itself to an outdoors lifestyle.
Good to have you along mate

Hello and welcome! Thought it seems 1 more place I can check off of my places to visit before I die list, not fond of policemen pointing guns at my head. ;)

Also the only stupid question is the one not asked. Ask away we were all new once and had just as many questions as you do.

We really don't do that sort of thing very often. None of us are routinely armed and most of us will never touch a weapon let alone use one. We are usually very welcoming. Honestly...

Hi Bomp
Guernsey nice place I believe, only passed by a couple of times in the early 1960s on the way to Jersey. Very few people went abroad in those days.
Perhaps one day. Condor Ferries only 5 miles away in Poole going over every day, so I may give it a go.

Welcome to the forum.
Enjoy your models and time on here.
