Hi all heres some picts of the halftrack for those who havent seen one . Ive took one photo of it next to my Tamiya Kingtiger for size comparison .The tanks 1:16 as we all know the halftrack is 1:18.

Right now I think most folks turn the front wheels with a servo purely for cosmetic effect, and use either El-Mod or another ESC to steer with the tracks, but thats less than ideal. I know El-Mod are working on a halftrack specific version of their system , and Andrew Design are working on something similar for their future half-tracks which should also be available seperately. (I'll leave it for Rivetcounter to comment on how well their Kettenkrad electronics work - I'd guess it probably doesn't have enough ooomph to drive a larger vehicle safely).

WSN have displayed working prototypes of their RTR 1/16 M16 AA halftrack, but the electronics are unlikely to be available seperately based on current experience :( .
I seem to recall Clark design were also working on a half track system, but their stuff could be a ways away from market.

Hi Mart,
Thanks this is a project . Im thinking of doing the cosmetic stering has been mentioned . One memeber uses HL electronics and the turret travers to stear the front wheels but no power to them ?

Drive with the front wheels is more trouble than its worth - I'm not sure that the Hanomags even had front wheel drive - I would have thought that would have been a little pointless ???

Best to drive with the tracks and figure out the front wheel steering as best you can - you might even get away with having them held straight with a weak centering spring that allowed the wheels to point where ever the tracks pushed them? You'd need to eliminate the "superspin" to make it work tho

According to here: http://www.fprado.com/armorsite/tigers.htm

Many of the unit commanders had argued for the retention of the Pz.Kpfw.III, to perform the many duties for which the Tiger was not suited to, but their requests went unheeded and the Pz.Kpfw.III were replaced by Sd.Kfz.250, assigned to the Abteilung-Stabskompanie (battalion headquarters company) for performing scouting, reconnaissance, running messages, standing perimeter guard, and other tasks not suitable for Tigers.

So I'm guessing no ??? (Rivet, any thoughts?)

Panzer Lehr followed up Wittmann's attack on Villers Bocage with a combined arms assault to secure the town, so you might want to see if google turns up anything on them.
Failing that, you can always join my Pz IVH of 12th SS Pz Div and SturmPanzer IV of 217th SPz Abt 217 in the defence of Caen ;D
