A fascinating website, Herman. Over 12,700 tanks were transported from Loch Ewe (where I live) to Murmansk by the Royal Navy and Merchant Navy Arctic Convoy service. Some 3,000 sailors died delivering the tanks to the Russians (Churchills of various marks, Crusaders, over 1000 Matilda 2s and over 2,000 Valentines).
A medal has finally been issued to few remaining survivors on the convoys (most in their nineties); I'd say better late than never; but for most it is never, and a ouija board would be needed to deliver those thoroughly deserved citations.
A Museum in being created here, to reflect the incredible hardships those seafarers underwent to assist the Russian war effort.
