Panther F build - Part 2

Post by mitchell »

With a large gap between completing the lower hull and the arrival of the upper hull I've had plenty of time to ponder over colour schemes. I'm going with 3 main paints - Schokobraun, Dunkelgelb & Resedagrun -

Haven't done any weathering except for a little "dust" and "tyre rubber". The tracks are the winter tracks, which are extra wide and add a decent amount of well balanced weight -

Set to work on the Panther F upper almost as soon as it arrived :D . It actually compliments the RCTank.de lower hull really well. Nice heavy & reasonably robust tank

Image

I have been toying with the idea of getting a basic airbrush kit for a while, there's just some things you can do with an airbrush that's quite difficult to do with a regular brush

Image

Got the basic design of of my camo outlined, now its just a matter of filling in the gaps, kind of :)

Image

I'm trying to imagine the upper finished & weathered like the lower

Image

Not sure which side i like the most, or if I like it. I'm sure that i'll have a better idea after the painting and weathering. Seems like such a long way ahead :D

I'm sure it will all come together for you, you've got a good start. I've got a question about the upper hull. Does it fit the lower Asiatam hull from rctank.de without any modification? I have two Panther G's, a Tamiya and the one I bought from Dominique at rctank.de. I was planning to change the latter to the F model by purchasing the upper and turret.

Yes the upper fits snugly onto the chassis, in fact the precise fit gives me the impression that that was the manufacturer's intention

I have an ancient DeVillbiss Aerograph Sprite Major which for as long as I can get new seals and other spares I shall keep, so no I havn't bought an airbrush from the nice lady but I do buy other paraphernalia and the service is very high.

I worked for a coachbuilders years ago and we used Devillbiss guns. I'd love to be able to afford one

The sprockets were a pain, probably the only real problem i've had with the whole build. Had to do a fair bit of re-working with the dremil before the tracks would mesh.

Its the first time i've used the lighter shade "Resedagrun" acrylic, i think i'll be using it again.

The Tiger was painted using mainly the darker Resedagrun, i know the pictures kind of dark but it gives a completely different look
