Smokers are really hit and miss, and that might be why replacements are only ten bucks. If it were mine I'd try adding a tiny bit of smoke fluid. I have a syringe and i measure out about a half CC. Too much or too little can mess things up, so I try not to overfill. Have you taken the tank apart yet?

I had so many failures with smokers that I stopped replacing them that is until the arrival of the "TARR" series of smokers, these really are efficient and reliable, Ian (TANKBEAR) supplied the TARR smokers I use, and his service is ace. You can find them at this site--

Il have a look at them thanks as need one for my other tank , can the wicks block it seems the smoker burns the fluid of on the wick then when it stops and i turn it of it gives it time for more fluid to soak up the wick ? Just a thought that the liquid aint soaking up quick enough

The wick is sort of suppose to be dry. Basically dry at heater element then the fluid gets sucked up the wick where it touches the element and vaporisers.
So might be the heater element isn't getting hot enough to suck enough fluid up which would sound like it smoke at first then not for another 30 minutes.

Normally making the heater element shorter will increase resistance and therefore heat, but it draw more power and could damage your electronics so I wouldn't recommend it for novices.
Another option is to replace the wick which is a little lighter in weight as the standard one is very heavy. Some string or cotton strips should work but be careful the heater element is fragile and could easily break.
