IBU2 and Servo recoil

Hi all,

Acquired a used IBU2 just to see what it is all about since I am entirely a Clark guy. Anyway, promptly burnt the 2A SMD fuse but it is all good now. Quick question though. Is there something you need to do to get servo recoil to work ? I noticed that the servo does not even initialize when I plug it in when power up. Also, there seems to be some extra parameters in the .ini files that is not on the online IBU manual.

Regards,

MichaelC.

First question is, have you got the plug in the right way around. Apart from that it should work, page 21 of the manual explains the ini file settings for servo recoil timings. I have had duff servo's in the past so its always wise to check that the one you are using is moving when connected directy to the rx, or try a different one. The battery also needs to be well charged.

I hope this helps

Thanks Rob. I tried two different servos, but what was strange is that usually if there is power to the servo port, the servo will jiggle when you plug it in. Neither of them did it. The even stranger thing is that when I fired, not only does the servo not recoil, but the elevation goes on for the duration (?!?!?). I understand that elevation is trigger by moving the stick half way up, but it looks like it is actually activated thru out the firing cycle as if it is the servo.

I am sure I will sort this out. I am new to this IBU thing, so still learning tons.

I followed the schematic with the signal wire on the inside, just like the picture on the manual as well.

MichaelC,

One thing that you could try, if you haven't already, is running through the tx setup, eg moving the sticks through all positions so that the board knows where they are. It could be that the firing position isn't being fully detected, and therefore doesn't trigger the recoil. Out of synch trims would do the same. If the gun is firing, I would guess that the settings are ok though.

You are right though, a servo usually primes when the power is applied regardless of anything else. If you felt confident enough to do it, you can power the servo from a 6v battery pack by making up a small loom with Y leads (lots of examples on the web, youtube etc), and just use the signal pin to activate it, this would narrow down the problem.

Is it possible to contact the previous owner of the board to ask them if it was working before you got it?

Have you got the servo in the right socket?

Thats a good point, I was assuming it was the base version which only has one servo socket, if its the pro it has three, though any one of those should still nudge the servo and work when the power is applied. When you blew the fuse, did anything else go AWOL at the same time? A quick look at the back of the board may reveal scorch marks or duff solder joints where the servo pins are mounted.

My thought it that if the elevation is moving when you fire and Im going to assume you have servo elevation here? that maybe you have them mixed up?

Thanks guys that was a good guess and make sense but I have the base version which only has one spot for the servo. The previous owner didn't use servo recoil so it was never tested. I will wait for Ian to get back to me but maybe a trip to the repair shop perhaps.

Co-incidentally the elevation doesn't work so maybe it is related to the same problem. Only time it comes on is when I fired, even though it makes the sound.

I am quite impress with how it runs compared to Clark though.
