Lads, the huge upswing in modern tank builds going on right now, and the recent ones, I've been considering transferring the modern builds out of each section into the actual modern build stand alone category.
Historically, the poor old "modern Build" section has languished while the other three(Tamiya,Heng Long, and Other) have been well subscribed.
I reckon it would be good to have the genuine modern builds under the one heading, easier to find and in better context.
Abrams, Leos, Challengers etc.

That being my opinion, I thought I would ask out there to those that own the respective builds if there is any objection ?

I agree they are both modern AND Heng Long or Tamiya, but they are modern really.Isnt aht why there is a modern section

Please have your say, so if the general consensus is that they are modern, I will simply move them into the 'modern' section.
If you feel that should stay splintered in respective brands, then they stay there.

Me, I reckon the surge of modern builds recent and current, warrant condensing into one place, for easy reference, and better context. Certainly easier to use the search tool to find what is right for you in one area.

I would add that new members to the Forum if my experience is anything to go by,
If they have a HENG LONG Tank they will go to Heng Long BUILDS and the same for TAIGEN/TORRO and TAMIYA,
Many people will see MODERN and not associate it with a particular makers build but rather something to do with research and ignore it.
If the suggested change takes place and I do think HERMAN'S idea is a good one, His points certainly make sense,
BUT new members should when introducing themselves be told what the MODERN section actually is,
A recent new member when advised to read the BLACKLIST declared they could not find it!!
Anything with which we are unfamiliar is confusing and we should remember that.

As a relative newcomer here, I hope it's OK to stick in my two pennyworth. I think the Modern Tanks should be left unchanged where it is in the general section. It is about the real things, rather than models. However, I do think a new Modern Tank Build within the Tank Build and Mods would be a good idea. The brief description that accompanies should, i would have thought, been enough to guide people to the right place. Just as a side issue, if you build a tank using part Heng Long and part Tamiya, how do you decide which to put it in?

From my own way of using the forum, I just click on 'View New Posts' when I log in, that way I see all threads that are active. It doesn't matter where the thread is, it appears and if I am curious I click on it.

If I was a newcomer I would probably look at builds relating to the manufacturer, eg to see what I could do with my Heng Long, Tamiya etc, or what others have done with theirs. There is also the issue of where members post their builds, if there is a modern tanks section, they may still post builds in the manufacturer area.

For those occasions where I go to say, the Heng Long area, I often see what I am looking for but then spot another build that I have missed. If builds are in other areas completely then they wouldn't appear.

As a new comer here I have found the current set up fairly user friendly. I wanted to build an Abrams and had found that Heng Long had one in their line, so I read the Heng Long section and found what I needed. I also needed information on the M1 Abrams used the Modern Tank section obtain this information and to ask questions about the Abrams.

So from my perspective the current topic/thread layout worked well though it does seem logical that the Modern Tank builds be grouped/linked together.

A new forum titled Modern Tank Builds would leave to much of a gray area about what is posted. Would it be for anything built that is a post of tanks built after 1946 or only the most modern tanks say from 1995 to today.
A better name would be Post WW2 Armor Builds. Which would end up with M50 and 51 Sherman's in it along with the Challengers, Abrams and type 10s and some other build projects.

All in all I think the current forums are easy enough to follow.

Separating each tank or armor type into its own forum without regard to whether its a build or just pics of completed units would make finding your tank or armored vehicle of interest much easier to find but that would require redesign of the whole site I think .

As a fairly new member to the best forum there is, one of the very few things I don't like is that we have (IMO) too many sections already. When I visit I automatically check general discussion, general questions and show off, and sometimes introduce yourself (as well as any section I have a post in, like family or off topic), but having to go to all those different sections to see what's happening is kinda time consuming. On another forum I sometimes visit they have just one main section and everything gets posted there, and that's not quite the best either. It all gives me new respect for the guys that keep this forum up and running. There's really a lot to consider and pleasing everyone would be impossible, but the guys here make a great attempt and do a great job.

So my vote is - please don't add any new sections, it's hard enough to find time for the ones we already have. I think that's one of the reasons I haven't started any dedicated build threads, because I have enough on my plate as it is.

Gary, If you visit the Forum more or less daily than clicking on "View New Posts" saves looking through lots of sections when the whole lot is covered on one page but of course if you are looking for something specific then the search box or if you know what you are looking for then click on Forums and scroll down to the correct place.
