Hello everyone. I've been reading and learning from the fantastic pool of knowledge on this site for quite some time now, but never had anything worthwhile to post - until now
I'm thinking of buying the Porsche turreted Taigen King Tiger, as I really like the look of the tank. However, when I read reviews of it online some people seem to be saying that it has track problems and even that fitting a Henntec track tensioner will almost certainly be necessary.
Since it seems to me that people who post reviews appear to hold extremes of opinion (I love it / I hate it, don't buy it) I wondered if I could ask any current owners of this tank to tell me if they have experienced problems with it, or do you generally like it ? Any advice / opinions will be very welcome. Thank you !

It all depends on which version of the Taigen you go with. Link please and I can tell you exactly what to expect from it. I bought the lower range Taigen KT and upgraded to a Torro style lower hull which has a track tensioner built in, some Taigens come like this from the factory. Let me see which one you're looking at and I'll let you know.

I have that tank. If you don't have any modeling or RC experience I wouldn't buy it. If you do know your way around an xacto knife you'll need a hentec idler and possibly better tracks, or you'll have to do a lot of work to the tracks that come with it.

This is mine, after lots of frustration and experimentation it's finally a decent tank, and i now consider it worthy of an IBU2 when the budget allows.



If you can find a set of Torro KT tracks they help a lot.

Also, for my Bud, Terry, Taigen only makes one KT, the Porsche turret, and Torro makes the Henschel turret. Torro and Taigen are closely associated, but are still two separate companies.

That's the one I started out with its tracks have always been perfect for me once I added a drop of crazy glue to each side of each pin.

That tank is a pretty good starting point in my opinion. Didn't know that about Taigen and Torro thanks Max! Go ahead and get it then get the Torro lower hull, reuse your tracks, drive sprockets, road wheels, idler wheels, upper hull and turret and electronics. After that you can always get new electronics, smoker, gearboxes, speakers, all sorts of goodies!

Thanks chaps. That certainly gives me a heck of a lot to think about. I don't really want to start off with a tank that needs heavily re-working just to get it to run decently. I think I may go for a Tiger 1 or Panther G instead as I don't want to be put off the hobby by a frustrating start. Thanks for taking the time to help !

In its stock for its not bad at all. I built mine to be as tough as the real thing, lots of people think I went overkill with mine but I wanted it as tough as I could get it.

All these tanks can stand improvements, I've yet to find one that can do what mine does out of its box. It's all up to you commander.

Thanks for that Jackalope - I'm hugely tempted to buy one and just accept that if it doesn't run well straight out of the box that I may have a steep learning curve ahead of me. Ah, why is nothing ever straightforward
