Hi all

I see that Tankbear sells tarr smoke units and I noticed they are differnt marks and versions. Having just an IBU2 base board what version/mark of Tarr smoke unit should I go for as I am unsure what the main differences between them.

You need either a mk1 or 2

the 3 and 4 has an extra bit that can alter the voltage, the ibu2 can do any way

Mk1 & 2 are non proportional

Mk3 & 4 are proportional

However the IBU2 automatically creates a proportional output to the smoker so either mk1 or 2 will be fine for you.

Also

Mk1 & Mk3 are smaller metal tin construction

Mk2 & mk4 are plastic box construction

Dimensions are on my website.

Ian.

Is the extra voltage of any importance or is it just when there is is a higher battery in or the IBU2 pro version.

Having just the IBU2 base I'm assuming that I'd go for the MK1 or 2? I know someone who recently got a Tarr unit that was the plastic one. But they don't have an IBU2 just a standard board.

Not quite correct. The extra electronics controls the voltage to the fan so the fan goes slow at idle speed and speeds up with speed. The heater element is connected at battery voltage.

Technically speaking the heater element is a element and can take a decent voltage (I've had it running on 14.4v battery) but the fan is small computer type unit so most than likely rated at 5v or 12v at max.

The main concept is the heater makes the smokes so by increasing the voltage to the heater it will get even hotter and create more smoke. Some people use a separate higher voltage battery or a voltage step up device. BUT take care doing these mods, if your not comfortable around electrics and electronics DONT do it you can easily fry your electronics or start a fire. And like wise the heater will get hotter so a greater fire risk in your tank.

Thanks for the info I'll probably just go for the Mk1 or MK2 , as you mentioned I have the IBU2 anyway which means {I assume} that it would be proportional smoke.

Yes the IBU2 smoker output is automatically proportional to the smoker.
