New to the R/C tank world but I have always been active with ships, subs and recently electric aircraft. Always interested in R/C things though.
I have two Heng Long tanks, first a Sherman (all stock) and then a Tiger 1. The tiger is the most fun because I took it apart to upgrade and now I'm back in school for my Masters Degree. Who knew it would eat up all of my off work time like that? The degree I mean
On the Tiger I opened up the drivers hatches using a hobby saw placed sideways on the deck. That worked well. Both hatches are in great shape. Parts from Welsh Dragon (fantastic support) hatches, LED machine gun and engine covers all arrived and are first rate. Trying to keep my mods simple. Moving the switches from the belly to under the hatches, sealing off the holes. Not sure I want to keep the BB shooting action. I had hopes of shooting paint balls but it appears that is not possible.
I would like to know if anyone has a better way to secure the top hull to the bottom hull other than the stock screws. I see some have used magnets, what search words can I use to look up the magnets?
Lastly, anyone in N. Florida, South GA?

I have never used this method on Tigers but I have had great success with Panzer4s.

Taigen tanks secure the two hulls with a quick release mechanism. It's very efficient, and makes a reliable bond. This is a quick screen grab from rc.tank.de.. who sell it. Taigen tanks/Imex in Florida may also offer it as a kit. http://www.rctank.de/TIGER-I_13

Jack is right and you should check out Imex, you can call or email them but if you email it's Erik, not Eric. He's a great guy so it pays to get off on the right foot, eh?
Have you got new hatches for the Tiger yet, or are you using the ones you cut off? I have a bag full if you need a couple, no charge. Kind of a "Welcome to the Darkside" kinda thing.
Your prior RC experience will serve you well with the tanks, and it's always great to have multi RC guys join the forum.
And one of the best things you can do to make friends here is post photos and videos. We love photos and videos.

Thanks for welcome everyone. I will check on the magnets and Imex. I took a few photos of the hatch work so I'll post soon. Thanks for the offer Max but I ordered new in case I botched the job.

Hello all, sorry been out of touch due to school, work and life. Getting ready to order some parts for the tiger. Also picked up one of those circle cutting commas units used to relocate the turret.
Will keep posted on progress. Hope to start back next week.
