ElMod vs HL

Hi Guys.....here are some thoughts...well the thoughts of Mick anyway.......
I am not negative.....I may be old and crusty....but never negative.....but I am begining to waver a bit so I post my thoughts for your delectation and caustic comments.
I have a Tiger with CD turret, ElMod and everything metal that money can buy stuck on it, under it and inside it...weight 11 lb ish. I have blown the Afterburner once with HL black caps, and once with Jamara 480's. Now I run the Tiger without the Afterburner, with HL black caps and a 5400ma battery that lasts less than 20 mins and it won't climb over my foot let alone a small gradient in the woods. no battle system yet! Cost approx £800 so far including mistakes, and I have a massive bag of waste plastic components and motors that clutter my small shed. This tank is a pain in the neck because it is a source of financial worry, runs for a very short time and I worry in case I break anything off or blow a board that ElMod now don't make.
I have a PZ3 with RX13, standard white cap motors and gearboxes, metal tracks, a few aftermarket metal components making it overweight for un-cooled HL electronics. It is accurate in detail, is good to look at and it has the standard 2000mah battery but no battle system yet. Cost about £150. I run this tank for over 1/2 hour full tilt through the woods and mud, up all sorts of slopes shooting bb's at everything. I don't worry about it and it never faulters on the slopes....some serious slopes as well.
I know it is great fun to mod or change something, but I feel the cost is somewhat extraordinary considering my earlier statement about Tiger 232.
HL vs ElMod vs Tamiya.... a terific price differential and is it worth it? I have enjoyed every minute during the build of Tiger 232, and will probably make another ElMod Tiger..yup I bought 2 sets off Thomas. But I am wondering about the cost difference vs enjoyment....I now have to fork out for battle systems too.
How many of us stick with HL kit and not wory about busting it.... my grandchildren scream and shout whilst driving them so the ElMod sounds cant be heard....and the HL seerms to be like the old TONKa toys..unbreakable.
Food for discussion eh? I dont knock what anyone does or will do in the persuit of this hobby...I have HL and ElMod and enjoy both but I wonder how many of us...like me... look at the growing line up and wonder if we build expensive because "everyone else does" or because we get any more fun out of the expensive tank over the basic HL tank. Some of you are "modelers" first and battle players second......but can we hear the difference when it is 20 yards away so do we need to put the expensive kit inside.... do we??????
Go on....lets have some thoughts from you.......Mike
