How effective do you think the Sherman 105 was if needed to be used against enemy tanks? Less effective than the short barrel 75?

Given it was upgunned to be effective, I'd assume it was only good enough to work against earlier Panzer IIIs and IVs. Although both were probably quite effective against Japanese tanks, given their ultra thin armour.
