My understanding is the casing of the periscope was brown but David will be able to give you the most accurate answer.

Guys
I have read that 'early Tiger 1 were fitted with hatch periscopes, except prototypes' As i have an early Tiger 1 and i am fitting a new upper hull, as i don't want moulded tools and cables etc. Am I correct in fitting hatches with periscopes, please ?

Hi, If you have or can get hold of a copy of "Haynes" Book "Tiger Tank" If you open to the Introduction there is a two page colour photograph of "131" at Bovington Tank Museum,
This tank was captured on the 22nd April 1943 in Tunisia and was one of the first Tigers in service in the German Armed Forces,
The Picture shows the Drivers and the Radio operators hatches open and in clear view are the Periscopes fitted to them, I hope that answers your question.
Shaun.

If there is a "Works" shop near you, they are selling the Haynes Tiger manual for £6
