Tamiya Kits

Those who read my introductory post will know that I bought my Tamiya Tiger as a one off magnum opus (which was a cause of great hilarity all round) . The construction is pretty much complete, apart from the brass rear mudguards. What I am currently doing, using my limited talents, is detailing where I am able, to differentiate it from any straight kit builds. The problem is I am having withdrawal symptoms - I really miss the construction work. Now you can gloat, laugh your heads off or whatever you chose (I would prefer that you don't say "I told you so"), but I am looking for another to do. The difficulty is the price. The only "
cheap" one I can find is the Sherman, which I don't really fancy. The others, by the time you add in radio gear, are moving out of my current price range, getting close to or in excess of £1000.

The best price I can find is for a KT @ £499 plus radio. Unfortunately it is from tankzone, who head the supplier blacklist. The question is - can anyone recommend a source for best prices? UK or EU for preference, otherwise Customs and Excise and the dreaded VAT add-on will rear its ugly head. What I would really like is a Mk IV or a Panther.

Obviously, a lot cheaper are HL. Taigen Torro etc, but so far as I can tell, these are ready to run and my skills are really not up to chopping and changing these. On the other hand, if there are other manufacturers of radio control tank kits in 1/16th scale, please point me in the right direction, though I would like something of the same quality as Tamiya.

Wow that is good! Banzai hobby are a good source too, about the same price as axles (taking shipping etc into account) but have the 2.4ghz sets with them. My is-2 was £600 all told.

Thanks guys. Taken the plunge - a Panther will shortly be on it way to me. My Tiger is just in grey. Methinks I will have to improve my paint skills for this one.

Axels have some cracking deals. I got my Kv from them recently.

You can get one handset and multiple receivers so that keeps the costs down. I use a spectrum dx6i and just buy a new AR400 every time I buy a tank.

Look forward to the panther build Richard!

Woken up at 7 this morning by my phone making a loud noise. A message to say my Panther will be delivered on Monday. :) I must get on with my Tiger, so I have somewhere to work on its little sibling.
