Aisatam 3 ton truck/half track

Does anyone here have any experience or owns one of these? I would like to know how the quality is and such. I would like to get the half track version but due to my prior experience with Aisatam I am quite skeptical of their quality. Their custimer service sucks big time that I know. I have a panzer iv chassis of theirs and their elefant and while the pz iv chassis didn't turn out too bad in the end despite all the fitment problems I had with it, the elefant on the other hand is a complete pos as far as I am concerned. I am hoping the 3 ton half track is a better unit but I want to get some feedback beforehand from others
Thanks!

Out of interest is your elefant an earlier or a more recent one? I heard the early ones were pretty ropey but they've improved it since.

I have that truck but I haven't started on it yet. I bought the best asiatam had to offer and it came with electronics and a 4 channel radio. I think I might be a little afraid of it. If you get one we can do them at the same time and maybe help each other out.

Tom, I skimmed that link you provided and it looks like it will be very helpful, so thanks, Bud. Good tip.

Hi Tom, How can you tell which version of elefant it would be? I actually don't have it at the moment, I sent it away to get painted up by airbrushler (hes on the rcu forum) and he has been having one hell of a time with it. I've had to buy new suspension for it already as they had broken from just sitting. He was having problems getting the front wheels to fit as the bearings were wrong and there was some issues with the front shafts. And then when he went to put the tracks on it he discovered that aisatam didn't give me enough track as both sides were too short! Aisatam couldn't be bothered to help me at all so I had to buy a whole complete track set from Dominique :( Dominique even told me that he wont be carrying any more Aisatam stuff in the future because they are impossible to deal with. There were parts missing from it when I got it too like the front fenders and some hinges were broken and it just goes on and on! Maybe if the first ones were lemons then that's what I probably got :haha:
Max, if I decide to get the truck I will let you know. I will have to check out that link Tom provided and see what the issues with it are and if it is worth it or not to get it. Our Canadian dollar is in the toilet right now too so that doesn't help things. The cost of it will be at least double by the time I get it shipped here :(

Wow, if it's getting that bad I'm thinkin' maybe I should put some effort into getting a Famo before it's too late. I was hoping to get one this summer (I get a healthy bonus in August) but Maybe I should try to accelerate that. Hmmm, might have to sell a tank or two.

I would love to get a famo too, I just wish that Tamiya would make it or even taigen/Imex. At least then you know the things going to work properly and there would be parts support for it too. I was looking on aisatams site and they don't even have a famo listed any more, just some parts for it

That sounds pretty dreadful! Does it had steel shafts on the suspension arms? The original ones were just zinc and were prone to snapping. Also the older ones had the final drive external to the tank, in the final drive casing, they didn't have the servo mounts for elevation recoil and traverse. I think the really early ones could recoil and elevate but no traverse. Lasted ones have mounts which make life easier. They also have more normal gearboxes where the output shaft it on the gear box rather than being separate. I think mine was an earlier one but the swing arms have been replaced. I also contacted asiatam and was able to get the newer gun assembly. I know what you mean about their customer service, I had to bombard them with emails and left a really snotty review on their Facebook page before I got a response, which to be fair they sent me a replacement set on the newer gearboxes (all I was asking for was a couple of gears!!!). I think they've got worse though, one of my first tank upgrade was a set of asiatam gearboxes for my jagdpanther in about 2009 they came bent and damaged in the post and asiatam replaced them straight away, sad how times change.

I agree, Tom, asiatam has really gone downhill, just in the minuscule amount of time I've been a tanker. If you get an answer to an email it's like winning the lottery. That's why I just finally got so frustrated by trying to get more info on their Blitz line that I ordered the best one they listed, hoping it would work out OK. Not a very wise way to do things, but frustration tends to make me quite irrational.

That's very depressing news about the Famo. I almost ordered one with my last bonus but decided to wait and now it looks like I may pay heavily for that decision. I may go ahead and pick up the cab and whatever other parts are still available, just in case the Famo kit is gone for good. That is, if I can find the scratch somewhere. Psssst - anybody wanna buy a good used tank? Only driven to church each week by a little old lady in Pasadena. :)

Thanks for the info on the elefant. Mine does have the servo brackets on the end of the gun on the inside. And I had the old suspension with the pot metal mounting post but they sent the updated ones with the steel post with the tank. When Greg was transferring the suspension over that's when he had issues with the one part was breaking on the arm. I think it was that piece with the two small circular ribs that holds the spring in there. I am not sure about the gearboxes and if they have the final drive built into the tank. I wish more tanks would have a final drive built in like the Tamiya Pershing does. You get a lower reduction and it takes the strain off the boxes. The Aisatam one must have been real bad for them to eliminate it. it's too bad as the elefant would probably do better with it as its heavy
As for the Famo, maybe there was too many problems with it and they are updating it or it's possible they kiboshed it totally. I still would have liked to get one though, Juckenburg has a Famo kit but I don't know much about it, it might only be a static model
