Is a £350 Torro so much better than a £250 Taigen and that so much better than a £110 H-L?
I'm new to this, about to buy my first 1:16 and am a little bedazzled so help please.

If you're buying from Torro direct, you might be paying 100 more for the wooden crate they come in. In the US, we buy Torro and no wooden crate. My KV-2 and King Tiger are both Torro tanks and did not come with the crate.

I had four King Tigers. Tamiya, Torro Taigen, and HL. I sold the HL because I got tired of the problems. The Taigen and Torro have been great, the Tamiya, outstanding. The Taigen gave me a little problem with throwing it's tracks until I installed the HennTec idler system.

First welcome to the Forum and a happy New Year, where are you in the world? I figure as you are using £ as your unit of currency you are somewhere in the UK.
As to value, Joe makes a valid point about the TORRO Box, I do not think it is worth as much as a £100 but it is useful.
You have to ask what you plan to do with your Tank? Will you be driving it straight from its delivery or are you planning to upgrade it ? If the plan is upgrades then the cheapest "Smoke & Sound" Heng Long would be my choice but if you want an all singing all dancing ready to run Tank then the Metal hull TAIGEN would get my money.
The most important question is none of the above BUT who are you buying from ?
I urge you to read the "BLACKLIST" before you spend a brass farthing, there are some well known names there,
AVOID!!

I really appreciate you replies. A 1:16 tiger 1 will be my first modern R/C tank.
Although I'm well used to R/C - I run planes,helicopters and locos the only tank I have is a 25 year old model of a Sherman.
I have the funds to buy any of the tanks, but always go for value for money. I run a 370Z rather than a Porsche for example.
Doing my R/C tank research is proving to be both fascinating and infuriating atthe sametime.
e.g. when vendor says its a Taigen - but might come badged as a Torro!!
Any more advice welcomed - I'll let you know how I get on. I'd consider a well specced pre owned tank.

Looks good, but trying to track it down by just a price without a manufacturer is a little tricky. I assume it is all metal, but who makes it?

As the others have said Both Dave @ Forgebear and steve @ welshdragon are good suppliers and very friendly to talk to.
Also if they are near to you why not visit one of the clubs on their meet days and you can then see and try the various tanks before making your mind up.
If you visit the Events / Days out section you will see when the meet days are and where. I think there is a club being set up just south of London, or our club at Grantham, Lincolnshire and also the club in Bristol.
I love scratchbuilding and modifying and personally have 3 Tamiya's and 10 HL's of various models they all have there little niggles in my case the HL RX-18 radio's (although since uprating to2.4ghz) the HL niggles have gone and the Tamiya's being heavy with relative short running time, (all though it could be my batteries are getting long in the tooth ) but it is every man to himself and I wish you every sense of enjoyment and welcome to our hobby.

Yeah, I forgot about that; it's from Mato and it's a all metal. I saw it on taobao.com and contacted the seller. Unfortunately, he doesn't ship outside China, and, I'm not going to buy this anyway because I'd like to try assembling some basic Tiger first before shifting to more advanced models.

Torro and Taigen are pretty close to being the same thing...(if you get the metal versions)....The HL is a totally different animal ..As mentioned Packaging is different Torro being the exception with it's wooden Crate ...Taigen and HL both have foam and cardboard

All run great....and as mentioned...really depends on what you are going to do with it...if you like personalizing with little bits and things...a little modification...the HL is the friendliest....The Torro and the Taigen are pretty much good to go right out of the box...maybe a little paint work to make either your own

That's pretty much it in a Nutshell
