I have two questions on differing matters but being lazy I thought I'd stick them on one topic.

1. I have a Challenger 2 sitting here in my office and it came with one of those new batteries (The ones that don't fit a Tamaya plug and have a ten minute run-time), I have a sneaking suspicion I already know the answer to this but can I swop the original battery out and drop in one of my trusty meaty 5300s? I haven't dared try it yet and decided to run it past you guys first.

2. The other day I bought a secondhand 'used and throughly abused' Walker Bulldog, the price was bargin basement cheap as it had no electrics, lots of damage but came with metal gearboxes. No problem I thought, I have loads of transmitters and receivers it will be a Sunday afternoon project and I'll have a knock about tank to play with. Well, the description and photos didn't do the abuse justice! That poor tank looks like it has been shot and stamped upon my a gun toting drug crazed elephant, I really should just dig a hole and bury the old girl with a little digity. She arrived through the post with half the seller's garden still inside the hull leaves and all! At this point I should have written it all down to experience but no.

After twenty minutes of pressure washing, a couple of cans of WD40 and a can of motorcycle chain lube I got the motors to spin the gears (bit gritty). I now just need to tidy up the exterior..... I'm going to have to stratch build the rear of the turret and there's going to be a whole lot of car body filler being used So here comes my second question.

Does anyone know of anywhere I can buy the exhaust boxes from? I don't want to spend too much as there is a danger of doubling the value of the tank by their addition.

I am a bit surprised that you need to buy the exhaust boxes as they are simply a pair of rectangular boxes with both sides chamfered on the top panel,
This is what 1mm Plasticard and a tube of Milliput were made for.
Tools= Micro files, Micro saw, superglue, and no more than an hour, job done.
The advantage of making it yourself is that the tools can be used over & over, whereas if you buy the boxes from a dealer assuming they are available it is £10 approx gone.
Anyone with a Walker Bulldog can give you the dimensions and there are plenty of pictures on the www.

Thanks guys. 1mm Plasicard, Mirco saw, Mirco Files and super glue you say.... trouble is, I'm more of a 4x2, six inch nails and a sledge hammer type of modeller. But I'll give it a go, I'm sure I've got a smal lump hammer chucking about the garage somewhere.

What about the battery? Do I risk it and possibly end up with a smoking lump of burning plastic on the drive?

We were all like you when we began.
Two important things to remember, First it is not a race, take your time it pays off.
Second This is a hobby, we and you are doing this stuff for fun!
If for any reason it begins to get up your nose, WALK AWAY and do anything else, some of us take strong drink others invite their partner to indulge in a little "Exercise" whilst others have a good go at both,

Maybe that's where I've been going wrong, although I've yet to attempt to perform all three acts at the same time I have found that combining two tends to spill my beer.

DRC, where are you? I have a lot of M41 parts, including a spare turret. I'm in Detroit. Where the weak are killed and eaten. By shipping rates! Anyway, if you're in the US you're in luck.

You see this is what makes this site. I post a problem and it's answered. I mentioned a want and there is always a kind person who has a spare and will post it to you. For instance, I bought a £10 'box of bits' off ebay, the seller is a member of this forum (I don't know your user name). Not only did he not grumble about the low price but he contacted me after the sale to see if the parcel had arrived and suggested various fixes before recommending I join this site. I don't know who he is but thanks once again. (I hope the German scratch-built half track is finished now)

Thanks for the offer Max-U52, unfortunately I live in a small village outside Hull in East Yorkshire, UK which would probably make the postage a little on the high side, I have purchased a new accessory pack for the bulldog and will have a go at making my own exhausts. The worst of the abuse I will cover up and turn the old girl into a 'battle damaged' vet.
