Help with a sherman build please

Ok I am going with the plain stock Heng Long Sherman tank. The main reason im going with the stock is that I need 3 of them. 2 for my boys and one of course for me. Are there DIY's build posts for the Sherman I should look at?
Here are some things I want to do to the tanks
1. Im going to use magnets to hold the top down to the chassis instead of the screws that are there now. Mainly because im sealing the batter box and water proofing it.
2. I want to relocate the power switch to the top of the tank or on the back. Why they put it on the bottom makes no dang since to me.
Ok here I need advice on some topics please
1. I want to get upgraded batteries for the tanks that are not lipo, which batteries do you guys but to make the tank have a longer run time?
2. Is the 2.4 controller and electronics good enough for these tanks?
3. I want to cut the wire that makes the tank kick back when fired because that sudden jerk wears the gears and motors. Which wire is it?
4. Where is the best place for metal parts or aftermarket addons for the tank?

OK, here's my two penneth worth, I know nothing about Sherman's, but the questions you are asking apply to all tanks.
1, battery upgrade not LPO, stick with 7.2v NIMH but go for a larger capacity battery, say 4000mah, get one from a reputable someone like Vapextech.
2, controller and electronics are they good enough, not really most people upgrade the to either Clark's, IBU or Elmod, if you are intending to battle your tank IR, you will have to upgrade anyway.
3, Upgrade your electronics you will have the option to turn tank recoil on or off.
4, Upgrades, metal parts, try Forgebear right here on the forum, Welsh Dragon models will also look after you, also if the vendors blacklisted, on the forum, the above two are definitely not.
Good luck, post pics.

Upgrading the electronics scares me I have no idea how to program the controller or the board. Where should I buy the electronics from?

Are you in the UK? A good choice is the simply plug and play IBU, contact Tankbear on this forum, he will sort you out, he also ships abroad, he can supply everything you need all set up ready to , its not difficult, Tankbear (Ian) his customer support is second to none.

What kind of metal gear boxes? Are they the cast metal or steel gears, your better of, waiting for someone on your side of the pond to respond as to where to buy .
On the gears, you need steel ones.

Mato uses the real metal gear boxes not the pot metal.

A simple way to stop the recoil is to add a second HL RX 18 and use it to run the tanks motors, but to do that I think you would have to go back to the 27mhz RX 18 and controller and receiver with crystals.
