IBU2 board question.

Apologies if there is a thread similar to this and I failed to see it.

Anyway I have seen the IBU2 that can go into a Heng Long Tiger 1 and was just wondering if there is a case or a way to potentially protect the IBU2 board?

Is this necessary or is the IBU2 robust enough that it can just go straight in to the tank's insides?

No case for the IBU2, some people attach plasticard to the back. Best option is to screw it down (mounting hole at each corner) I use brass PCB stand offs and M3 Allen bolts on my installs but you could get away with normal small screws. Just also think about orientation when fixing in place as you may want to remove the mocroSD card and I’ve mounted mine a few times where it was impossible to get out with out releasing the IBU2 :{

Thanks for the reply :)

I will look into that for the time it comes to install it.

I will go along with Ian's words of wisdom about the limited space to access the Micro SD card,
When I screwed the IBU 2 onto the floor of my Tiger 1,(Taigen Metal hull) I discovered that I needed to make more space for the Battery,
So I cut a parallel slot beside the existing battery strap slot and put a 5000mAh Li-Po on its side in place of the old 1700 Nimh,(Same Size),
Because I couldn't get the SD card out in such a small space, I sewed a loop of strong cotton on the tongue of the battery strap then pulled the strap out of the floor from the other end, with the balance of the cotton loop still through the battery strap slot,
OUT with the SD Card,
Did the download then back into the IBU 2 went the SD Card,
Then a pull on the cotton loop to get the battery strap back in place, replace the battery and JOB DONE.

I use stand offs, too, and just got my fourth IBU so I do have a little experience. Later I'll see if I can find some of the install videos for you. Your biggest problem with a HL Tiger is that battery box.

I print them in one piece, lol, built in stand offs (=easy SD card access), and tabs on the side to screw them down securely to a styrene base. The snug fit means that the board just clips in. Protects the board, stops loose wires getting near it, I did my Elmod the same way, and an open case for the RX18/receiver. These, along with battery holders and Visiton speaker boxes mean that my tank internals are tidier than they have ever been, and everything is removable. :P

Jarndice .
IBU3 is slightly smaller and comes with a box, is the last information I have.

mine is mounted on its side, with rubber standoffs screwed to styrene sheet that served as a bulkead. To access SD card, I have to remove the board. I could re-orient the board so the SD card slot side is on top, but that would mean re-arranging some of the internals in my tank. Besides, I don't feel the need to access the SD card often so it's ok if it's on the bottom where it's inaccessible, no big issue.

Thanks for the link :)

That looks the sort of thing I was thinking of. Is that the best way to go for housing or is a more DIY method better?
