Got a idea

I have just purchased a Heng Long Abrams tank with the metal gearing and treads with the upgraded controls. I have a traxxas slash and stampede that I have lots of parts on it. The slash is a 4wd offroad truggy with aluminum drive shafts. Im wondering if I can take the guts from my truggy and put them into the tank. I would like to use my brushless motor and cooling system for sure. Has anyone under taken a project like this?

The electronics will not work with a brushless motor, besides that you will need 2 motors not just 1. 1 motor drives each track so you will need 2 motors and 2 brushless speed controls and I'm not sure how you'd make them compatible with the tanks controls. There are a couple video's of a guy who built a brushless and lipo powered Tiger tank and he tells all the stuff he used but I do remember it was 2 of everything.

well the traxxas has a gear box to drive the front and the rear... but I get what your saying. wonder if one brushless motor could control both sides of the tracks with the traxxas gear box... I atleast have some free frame stiffener material

The tanks are steered by 1 motor slowing, stopping or reversing direction which is why they have 2 motors. If you were to figure a way to use just 1 motor there would have to be a clutch style system to allow 1 track to slow down or stop, however getting 1 track to reverse to allow a 360 spin with only 1 motor I don't think would be possible.
