Taigen Airsoft Barrel Recoil conundrum

It's that Highlander again, but inviting ideas and a dash of lateral thinking. My early production Tiger 1 project has hit a snag with its innards. Wanted to build a non-Tamiya Tiger (Tamiya is, methinks, too expensive for what you get..but very alluring)..but I wanted to include all the bangs and whistles for this, my virgin attempt at tank building. In the event, all the bits are from Taigen pretty much and...let me just say again how impressed I am with Welshdragon, and RCtank.de,..and now Heng Long Panzer.de as suppliers. Ok, well
I bought the 360deg turret system, with the neat slip-ring thingy, and then fitted the Taigen Airsoft Barrel Recoil system (in a metal turret), only to find that the wires for the recoil servo foul the tanks innards, as they don't pass through the slip-ring...as per photo.
Anybody got an idea how I can solve this? I've also just ordered the Clark TK22 board for a future upgrade, and I can see from reading posts here that it's going to involve even more head scratching. When I build my next tank- as the bug now dictates, it's going to need some strategic planning.

I believe all the wires has to go thru the slip ring. Is there not additional wires you can use off the slip ring for the recoil switch wires ?

Which slip ring kit are you using? I'm doing the same install right now and I used an IR slip ring kit. I think I have four wires left over for anything I may want to do in the turret later on.

The slip ring, and associated wiring was a part of a Taigen 360 deg.conversion kit (there are three versions: one for IR; another for airsoft with extra turret MG, and the one I bought- airsoft without extra turret mg.). At the moment, I can't see a way of adding the offending barrel recoil
servo wires to the slip ring, as they have to take a power source from the splice on the main MFU connector, with the provided wiring. I've seen larger slip-rings on Ebay, but using one would mean rewiring the turret completely, I think. As it is, if you buy the Taigen airlift barrel recoil system,
you get a redesigned barrel, a servo attachment for the recoil mounted on the gun, a revised mantlet and a new connector that fits inside the turret. The wires coming from that require the power feed. Imex-Erik, aka Taigentanks on Youtube, gives an interesting breakdown of the new recoil system on Youtube. However, he doesn't cover pairing the new barrel recoil with a 360 deg turret system. Hence, my conundrum. I've not encountered slip-rings before, so I need to do a spot of tinkering.

This annoying spell- checker! Every time I write 'airsoft', it converts it into 'airlift', if I'm not careful...and now one has slipped through, I see. Could be embarrassing possibilities here...but at least it wasn't 'facelift'.

How many wires go into the turret?

Maybe a 12 wire slipring off ebay will do the job

Ok, Highlander, if you don't mind workin' with a Yank then I'm your man. I'm doing the exact same thing right now, I know how to do it, and I took video. First, the airsoft slip ring without the MG is a 7 wire slip ring. You don't have enough wires, as you've discovered. Not only do you need one more right now, you're going to need another wire when you do the clark board. The elevation and airsoft have to be rewired to install a TK22 in a TG airsoft tank. Yes, I've done a couple of those, too. What you need is the IR slip ring (mine is w/o MG but it all depends on how much extra stuff you want to do up there, like maybe a servo operated TC that moves back and forth) and I was able to repurpose all the mini jst plugs so I kept the stock daughter boards in the turret. I hadn't planned to publish the videos yet so they're all unlisted on my youtube channel. I could publish them here but I'm still not sure what I'm supposed to post where on this forum and I don't deal well with guys telling me I should do it some other way so I'm not sure I should do that. Maybe I could PM you links to the videos? Then you (and anyone else you share the link with) will be able to watch them and I don't have to sweat it. What do you think? I mean, if you think they might be helpful.

Hi, Max, wie gehts?
I saw the piece on your Opa, and loved the pic., and the story. Too often these family heirlooms are turfed out when relatives die: forgotten faces in antique shop photos. Anyway, yes, I'd be delighted to work with you on this one, though, given my current lack of knowledge
I'd be getting the better deal, for sure. By all means, send the links. For the moment though, I'm stuck waiting for a radio to arrive.Since it's coming from China, it might take a while. I'm new to RC tank electronics, but I have wired houses and cars in the past (not hot-wired, though). I came across one of your Youtube pieces on removing pinions from dc motors, and enjoyed your improv skills. I enjoy problem solving too....necessity is the mother of invention,eh?
By the way, I have nothing against Yanks, and have them in my family. I've nothing against germans either In fact, now we've stopped killing one another. I speak german, have a son living in Zurich, and close friends in Hamburg..one a former Leutnant in the Hamburg Polizei.. but i digress...Please send the links.

Just followed the thread, Max. I see you've used the two turret wires as a power source for the recoil servo. That's clever. It also means that the wires run through the slip ring, and out of harms way. My servo wires hang loose, and don't go through the 360 slip ring. Bummer. You used the IR + Mg version of the slip ring, whereas I bought the one for Airsoft, and no mg. Looks like I need to get the IR wiring...and also to position the new connector elsewhere, to prevent the wires fouling. I see you put it under the gun housing. Clever again. Catch you later.
