SLU

Those who have been in the hobby a while may recall the SLU, a Tamiya DMD/MFU clone that was a lot cheaper than the Tamiya version, and had a host of additional functionality with multiple switchable lights, programmable functions, and excellent sound.

They disappeared when Clark, IBU and Elmod upped the game.

Well if what is on this link is anything to go by the esc board has been redesigned (it was always the weak point on the early ones) and the SLU is now back on the market. I am now wondering if they have done anything to improve the battle system as well? It was always way too sensitive, and the IR range was only good for 20m from what I recall.

If anyone has any info, it would be good to know.

Edit:

A bit more digging and found these posts on Facebook. Its now directly Tamiya apple compatible, and has other functions as well.

DKLM RC New SLU support servo recoil. Audio input. New ESC more powerful support up to 3cell Lipo.
I will install it on a tank and show the improved sounds and actions later.

DKLM RC
DKLM RC Hi Thomas, price will come out later after I fully tested it. I noted that it can be directly attached with Tamiya battle apple.

Thanks for the PM. I recall the diagram from way back. Question is, can the sensors, emitter and led's be wired straight into a 5 pin plug? Elmod do it so I am wondering if the SLU works the same way? The original SLU battle system left a lot to be desired, so if a decent one can be configured I can make use of the SLU that I have sat here.

The new ones look as though they are built to a higher spec, but DKLM hasn't got them listed on his site, even though he has vids of a Leopard 2A6 running with one. Maybe his testing threw up problems, he doesn't say?

Hi Rob There is a chip on the lower half of the Battle unit , so I don't think it will wire direct. Fireman Tim told me how to fit the Tamiya battle unit to the SLU. The sounds from the SLU are great but it is let down with the battle unit and the turret turn elevation chip which tend to pop if the traverse or elevation are tight.
