Hi all - where can I get this reduction gearbox for my Tamiya Tiger 1 to make my tank slower?
Is this just a direct bolt on or a replacement for my standard gearbox?
Thanks

Hi The 3;1 reduction gears will fit ,but every tank that I have seen them fitted to has wrecked the gearboxes . It cause to much strain to the plastic gear in the Tamiya gearboxes . You Have been warned .
regards pete

Don't do it!!! The tamiya gearboxes can't cope with the increased torque, you will strip a gear sooner rather than later

Oh I see - so what do people use? Just stick to the standard gearbox?
What about a smaller/slower motor maybe?

That works. Also impact low ratio gears are ok. The ultimate are from eto armour

I have a set in a Tamiya King Tiger. The engineering on them is complete overkill but the design is great. Way better than any other gearbox which has a motor per drive sprocket. Everything is oversized, it's simple to disassemble and replace worn parts - if they ever actually wear out. They are also really quiet. I got these after getting a pair of Impacts, which appear to be constructed of silver butter and made by a man who is allergic to taking measurements.
The only downside I could see is the stress is placed on 4 bolts rather than 6 (per pair). I don't think that will have too much affect, especially on a Tamiya Tiger, which is a really solid design anyway.
Check out my thread on the Static to FO King Tiger if you want to see pictures.
