Good Day Everyone ;D

My First real Post On The Forum:-

I thought I better start buying some very good Tank reference material and one book which stood out in the reviews barring one or two minor criticisms was the following:-

Encyclopedia of German tanks of World War Two
New ed.
Peter Chamberlain and Hilary Doyle.
Published 1999 by Cassell in London

I have one question and it relates to the best edition to buy? according to my research the last edition of this book was 1999 as above,
but I have found what appears an even later edition :-Published by Silverdale Books (2004)-ISBN 10: 1845090128 ISBN 13: 9781845090128?

I am certainly no book expert, but I am sort of wondering if this 2004 edition is some kind of cheap (US) version No offense to our American friends.

Of course I wish to buy the best printed Edition?.and anyone who as bought loads of books over the years like me ,will know that from edition to edition the quality of the finished book can vary a lot! so always best to check.

So am hoping someone out there can help by pointing me to the best edition their have been 4 x all together.

Many thanks Steve :D

Hello
Good to hear from you
I was not sure how to phrase it really?
I suppose I was wondering if this late edition is some kind of collector club issue or something?

all the best Steve

Steve I am into scuba diving and it annoys the h*ll out of my Lady when every year I sit on the airplane taking us to Mauritous and spend the whole trip reading this book, It is not the definitive but it is top quality and well worth the money.

Hi Shaun
Really great to hear from you
that good hey!
would you happen to know if the 1999 or 2004 editions which is best?

and if it is not quite the definitive book which ones are so I can add them to my list
my preference is for top notch photos with exploded captions (not to wordy)

all the very best Steve

Steve,Hi, I am reluctant to name any particular book simply because I have yet to find one book which contains every part of the subject, which is why I and a lot of other members of the Forum have sagging bookshelves full of references, Mine is the 1999 edition and as whatever information has come to light since would be the size of a pamphlet I am unlikely to buy a newer edition.
I would recommend British & American Tanks of World War Two (1933-1945) by Peter Chamberlain & Chris Ellis published by Cassel the ISBN number is 0-304-35529-1 which was first published in 1969 although mine is a 2000 edition it is a worthy companion.
I would also recommend the two volumes of "Tiger In Combat" (Vol 1 and Vol 2) by Wolfgang Schneider, Published by Stackpole ISBN Numbers
978-0-8117-3171-3 and ISBN 978-0-8117-3203-1
And of course HAYNES Owners Workshop Manual TIGER TANK By the curator of Bovington Tank Museum David Fletcher and David Willey and Mike Hayton, which is a complete strip down of "131" with exploded diagrams and plenty of photographs, as well as more general information on Tiger's.
All of these books are quite different but all are informative and Herr Schneiders books are very useful references if you need details of which Abteilung at which stage of the war had which tanks and where in the World at any particular time, including where known, Turret numbers, as well as totals issued to each regiment, invaluable, a pity that the photographs are either well known or very grainy or both.
If you go to Wikipedia and type in Tiger 1 you will find a list of reading you might like to follow up.
