Spektrum receiver question

Hi, First off, I want to say sorry now if this has been asked already or has been pointed out.
I am using my Spektrum DX9 radio to control my Tiger (Tamiya Full Options Kit) tank. Trouble is, the remote engine start/stop sound does not work anymore. The sound now only comes on when I switch the tank on and off.
I think I read somewhere that this is expected. I don't know why.
I'm using a DSMX 6 channel receiver (park flyer).
Why is this?
-----------------------------
Now, I found an old (few years old) Orange (Spektrum clone sold by Hobbyking) DSM2 receiver (6 channel) so I wanted to put this on my King Tiger tank just to play around. I installed it tonight and lo and behold: the remote engine start/stop sound worked! It's so cool so I moved this to my Tiger (my favorite tank of the two).
So now.. again, my question is, why and how?
Anyone know? Is it's because of the DSM2 mode?

Can I get anyone to comment please?
Is Spektrum supposed to still be able to control remote engine start stop or not?
because my genuine spektrum 610 receiver (DSMX) won't remote start stop the engine but the Orange receiver does. (Orange is only dsm2 though)

Remote engine start stop? Do you mean by turning on and off the transmitter?

Hi It could be the default setting on the first receiver, if its set up for aircraft it could have throttle up on loss of signal, this could end up with a run away tank if you loose signal or turn off transmitter . You may be getting away with it not running away ,is the barrel going up when you turn off radio.

Depends how you've calibrated your DMD, mine are all set so the guns fire with stick up or down

How do you calibrate a DMD, I didn't know you could change the settings and would like to find out how to do it. Thanks

The receiver I'm using does not have fail safe so it 'should' behave like a normal receiver but i guess not.
nothing happens when i switch the transmitter off. the tank just sits there with the engine sound still running until i actually switch the tank's switch off.
firing my guns, i have it mixed. so on my dx9, firing the main gun is just a press of the button (the bind button on top left of my DX9) and the machine gun is flipping the left lever next to the button on my transmitter.
So are you guys saying using a Spektrum should not affect the engine sound? i.e. the engine start up sound should still work when you switch the transmitter on?
