Some of the comments look like they were made by morons!
WHAAT!!! No Abrams M1 A3 tanks that are so heavy they get stuck in the mud and therefore are useless in REAL war:
Yeeesssss useless in REAL war, just ask any Iraqie! Fasest advance of armor in recorded history!
Based on what I've read, the M1 Abram tank has no speed advantage against main battle tanks with good diesel engines.
Sure cause everyone knows a diesel engine makes just as much power as a JET ENGINE!
Guess when you're the #1 tank on the block for soooooo long everyone gets tired of you being there and does whatever they can to knock you out. That and talk mad trash while doing it!

But the M1 is getting old its been around 1980!! 35 years is kinda pushing it and now the world is starting to catch up and pass it by. May be time for a new tank!

Say what you want the chally holds the longest shot record and the diesels for them are made 1/2 a mile from my house so that makes the chally the coolest and best so there!!!!!

Wasn't knocking any tanks at all Ed, mearly stating how rediculous some of the comments were.
Besides the Challenger isnt 35 is it?

The M1 had its day IMHO but the rest of the world has either caught up or passed it by. It's not junk by any stretch but just not the game changer it was in 1980.

Jack,
Don't worry. *chuckles* The next U.S. 'Game Changer' is already having tracks designed for it. It's reach out and touch capability will be unmatched in the World and everything that is a contemporary of the Abrams now will be sent back to the drawing boards. Including the new Soviet design.

There is a lesson here. Don't really comment sections on news sites. They'll only reduce your IQ.

Ed! *chuckles*
I love the Challenger II and pretty much all of the armor that led up to it. Face it, I just love tanks, period. The coming developments will change the face of warfare so much so that the things we love about the vehicles we build will be hard to recognize. I suppose that it is good to have lived long enough to see these things start to come about, Sci-Fi made reality. Would be interesting to see the modelers of a future generation doing a diorama with the Abrams and the Challenger like we do the Mark 5 and the Renault.
