LE TOUR DE FRANCE
Congrats to Team SKY..and Chris Froome who took the Yellow jersey home today in the final stage of the race....A most impressive effort...a high output finale ending with very challenging terrain...Nairo Quintana ...a fantastic climber...attacked and challenged both Froome and Team Sky...It was really a pleasure viewing the strategies and talented competitors this year

PS. As I watched the series ....a thought came to mind...almost every periodical as well as cyclist say short riders climb better than tall...the thought was that this tour was going to prove that wrong...Right up to the major climbs of the tour...where Quintana proved that saying to be awesomely true...he climbed and climbed ..no one could touch him...if he had attacked earlier...I think he would have took the Yellow Jersey...but hey gives more incentive to watch next year

Reminds me of my youth Alpha...used to time trial. Even got a trophy or two not keen on watching though

)...did more domestic jobs for my team...never took home any trophies or anything...but dang if I didn't enjoy the sport...Cycling is like no other sport...pure human effort...Back in the day..they used to say moto-cross was demanding No 1 on the list of events if I am not mistaken...did that for awhile ( long before Cycling) ...but found that was a myth....a packed wallet is all you need to go fast on those
I too enjoyed Time Trials...also Criteriums...long Road Races ...well.. not so much lol
Just got back into it during my Hiatus from the board....been doing about 10 to 15 miles twice a week
Did you watch the tour? I know you mentioned a negative happening to your bikes...did you still ride ?

Funny Note: I restored my old chromoly framed MB with titanium parts...and built another full titanium bike for the cost of one Tamiya Tank

No don't ride anymore back problems ended that but just been out and ordered a replacement bike for the wife £399 expensive taste my Mrs!! Let her moan when I get my next tank!!!

I seem to recall that a couple of decades ago this side of the pond they took the top athletes from various branches of sport, and put them through various monitored fitness tests. It was indeed the motocross riders that came out top on all round fitness.
I used to do trail riding every Sunday, and was usually ready to collapse from exhaustion after a couple of hours, by the end of the day I was barely able to move. Nothing like trying to pull an axle deep trailbike out of a bog that you can't stand up in, for getting the heart rate going. It sadly all came to an end when I got a bit too adventurous and broke my knee down an isolated track in the back of beyond. I rode the bike 25 miles home even though I couldn't stand up. It was the size of a small football by the time I got to the hospital and was in plaster for nine weeks, almost crippled for life. Stuck to road bikes after that...

I know where you are coming from Ed...I got back into it because doc said I was getting out of shape lol...didn't want to take up walking or running...too high impact and all...so I pulled out my bike
Yup was in some sad shape lol....pulled a calf muscle doing minor intervals on a hill

..so right now ...it's limited to downhills and flats

Cycling is one of the best rehabs for knee injuries ....Good you stuck with it ...My MBs are set for road...I run high pressure slicks...they don't go as high as a road bike...so the resistance is still a little higher..but dang...the gearing is much more friendly than my racers
The only thing that gets to me is getting passed when I'm on my MB

....but I know my limitations as I'm no spry pup anymore ...I just shrug that stuff off and get some of my own Scaramouching in

PS. Used to do trail riding...crazy stuff like crossing deep ravines on 4x4 bridges and all...but dang..that's history now..Recovery time is just way longer now
