Sad are recent headlines....FOUR MARINES and ONE SEAMAN...killed in Tennessee :'(
The sad statistic of this middle eastern gunman is actually very good ...considering it's a 5 to 1 ratio...which actually should be a wake up call ...as this may become a new trend in the way terrorism will rear it's ugly face...What adds to the sadness of the situation is that there are just too many "SHEEP" who will follow those clowns to serve a warped Religion or Lifestyle

The Silver Lining to this situation is that instead of a call banning firearms...there is a call to allow servicemen to carry arms in civilian surroundings ...like the recruitment office in which this incident arose ...SUPPORT THAT if you are able too...as it could have been a deterrent to that sad statistic

My good and true friend.
I believe that when a serviceman or women is under threat, singly or collectively then their right to bear arms wherever they may be in the world, their own defence is absolute But this is of course much greater than an attack on individuals or groups of any particular element of society.
Witness the brutal murder of nearly 40 holidaying Europeans in Tunisia just last month for example.
We in the west are certain that our culture is the true path to human fulfilment but about 50 years ago this view was argued by a group of people who suggested we were wrong and ever since Instead of using the ballot box to gain their way they are using the AK47 and the bomb, whether they would win more support for their argument were it done through the democratic process I doubt, but it is a certainty that the violent path they have chosen must fail.
We now have the difficult task of showing these people how inevitable their failure will be.
May God bless the fallen five American service personell let their passing not be in vain. shaun

Geez Tom! :O

Members of the armed forces SHOULD be able to carry firearms whenever and wherever they want to, for goodness sake how much more training could someone have then they? The police who are giving the right to open carry everyday are no where near as well trained as the military and no one bats an eye when they see a cop with a gun on his/her hip.

But then I am also of the belief that the Constitution says we ALL have the right to carry, it's the illegal unconstitutional laws that no one in this country questions. That is for us here in the states that is, sorry rest of the world.

It's the police' job to police not the armed forces.

Tom, I think the Colonel was calling for military personell when off base to be allowed to carry a hand gun for their own protection.
Which by the way is exactly what we used to do in Northern Ireland during the troubles. shaun

I don't think he meant for them to police as its illegal to use the military on the civilians in the U.S. However they should be allowed to carry their guns for personal protection just like we all should be able to in the U.S.

Getting too political, I'm out.

Im in. This...............thing we ALL face, regardless of geography or demographic or even nationality.............is a form of war.
Unconventional, irregular, underhanded, and seemingly random.
Police for my mind are there to tip the odds against actual criminal acts of violence & bring the perpetrators of this act to the hand of justice.
This is the case in all lands where the rule of actual established law is the norm.
As can be seen from acts of political or religious terror events, not just recently either, the response becomes one of trying to make acts of purely political or religious violence fit the mindset of a criminal act...........because that is the only way free western nations interpret the rule of law as against the rule of war.

I agree that police are there to enforce the law, but when the circumstances of law do not fit the method and execution of the acts of extreme violence, any and all assets should be used to control it.
Bader-Meinhof, IRA, two that spring to mind.
Most soldiers dont make good lawyers or policemen..................most policemen dont make good combat soldiers, the key difference is the way they see how the risk should be controled & stopped.

As usual, political cheap-shot terrorists dont take on anything they cant beat, so, they will blow up civilians in shopping centres, theatres, or hit off duty servicemen, aircraft , tourist gatherings etc etc..................and sit & watch all free men be hamstrung by the very process that makes our respective societies great.

As a mod I must temper my true feelings in context of this arena, but I feel anyone here has the moral right to at least present an outward feeling of what this type of dog act means to them.

I feel for the families of those men, who volunteered to be in harms way, but not in their own back yard, unarmed & helpless.
