Hello advice needed, are the older Tamiya dual clutch single engine tanks worth buying second hand. If I get one that doesn't have radio gear is this a problem or is the older radio gear easy to come by. Cheers Mark

I don't think they are, one will cost about £100-130 give or take. Now you can pick up a second hand full option tank for £200-250. By the time you've sorted said clutch drive tank there's not masses in it.

Depends on the tank if it's one like the Leo 1 or Geopard which are no longer available then yes. But like Tom says with others like Tiger or King Tiger probably best waitng for newer version.

it depends on your skill set. I have 3 tamiya twin clutch tanks, (King tiger, Gepard and a sherman they are all on the original clutches and motor gear trains. All you need is a 40m radio set and a electronic speed controller of about 15amp capacity. This will give forward /backward motion and you then use a decent servo to control the clutch arm for the steering. The turret ele and training is where you will need to be a bit of an engineer to make your own design's for controlling them. I have used a hl turret ring and motorgearbox for training and using 2 micro switches on a servo to give lh or rh turning and a servo mounted directly on the ele to give up and down. if you want engine sound there is varies way's the cheapest is probably a company called MTRONIC who do a pretty good diesel sound unit for a air start multi cylinder boat engine (but put it in a tank and its not bad) last one I brought was £52 including P&P and that includes a matching waterproof 50mm dia speaker, a simple servo operated switch can be used to start and stop the engine sound

I'd just watch ebay for 2nd hand FO kits. I wouldn't even consider buying an older one unless it was a Leopard which can be rebuilt so it's near the same standard as the 2A6 but at quite a cost.
