Sorry but I'm pretty sure (as are all the others of that 653 JT) that photo was originally black and white and has had colour added at a later date. In other photos that tank is much much lighter.

Also where did you read guns arrived painted grey? They were usually delivered in yellow, even when base coats went through the green period.

It's hard to say why the sky is like that but without a full history of the photo the colours are conjecture. The only other way to be sure is to trace the vehicles history from where it was built in Vienna to it ending up there. May re-read the 653 unit diary as it may allude to some things.
