My second tracked beasty!
While I was waiting on some bits for the Tiger, I thought I might make a start on the Sherman. This is basically going to be an out of the box build but with quite a few detail bits (thanks Bob!) I'm also going to replace the philips screws on the suspension units with hex bolts. Some thanks must also go to the Impact guys incl Mark from
www.mitosal.com
Changes so far:
Bearings fitted in road wheels
Impact return rollers
Impact idler with D/P hull strengthener
Styrene back plate
Impact T/U's with Graupner 400 motors
Scratch built hull strengthener (fwd and above of T/U's)

It's pretty easy.
Lay the tracks out on some old newspaper.
I mix up a sloppy batch of raw umber and raw sienna (artists acrylics) mixed with de-mineralised water and a drop of dish washing liquid.
Using a soft wide brush I then just paint it on one side then turn the tracks over and do the other.
Let it dry for 24hrs and there you have it!
I haven't tried to get a deep rust effect, just a dirty used look.
Hope this helps
Phill

Great choice with the Sherman, even the out off the box model is strong and reliable, i love the T-66 tracks they look so much better than the T-84's and i know i keep saying it but i will get some for mine just as soon as i have enough pennies

Some more progress. I modified the elevation unit by using epoxy on the clutched gear and wiring in some sub-micro switches in place of the metal elevator arm stops.
