Looking good! Word of advice if I may, don't build YOUR tank to please US. If you want to change it to make it historically correct then by all means have at it, but regardless of what anyone says if you like something on your tank and your happy with it thats all that matters.

The shovels were lost or broken pretty quickly I think. But something as simple as a shovel the crew could have picked up any where in their travels, I doubt anyone would hammer you over a shovel if you want one.


The mud flaps I use the metal ones for the Tiger myself for the same reason and you'd be surprised they hold up fairly well. If you ever do a King Tiger just forget them as they get hung up and ripped off. Never did a working convoy light so I'd like to see yours if you ever do get round to installing one.

I'm sure it annoyed them more! Don't forget that the Tiger driver could not be out of the hatch and drive at the same time, impossible to reach the controls from what I've read.

Hi,Kiaser, I hope all is well, I heartily agree with Jack, This is your build, everybody on the Forum can offer help, BUT you are the person who decides whether to take the offer!!!
With that in mind, when you decide to remove the tools a good idea which will protect the surface of the Tank is to apply "DUCT/DUCK" tape NOT "MASKING" tape around the area you will be working.
Do you have a particular Regiment or even a particular Tank in mind? I ask because "PEDDINGHAUS/ARCHERs" offer a very comprehensive range of decals and if you cannot find your Tank in their catalogue they will make one offs on demand and then you really will have your own Tank!
Something lots of builders forget is that the "Starting Handle" on late Tigers was not mounted on the back plate but in front of the radio aerial and instead of the old pattern it was now in two pieces.

There's some interesting commentary in the Heavy tank destroyer 653 unit history about external fittings and what happened to them. One of the concerns raised over the Ferdinand was that when under artillery fire almost all the external fittings would get blown off - tools, tool bins, lights, anything that wasn't part of the structure itself. Also seen quite a few images of King Tigers with missing light fittings. I assume they were blown clean off.

I would expect so.

People were sadly expendable, no one cared about the lose of troops only equipment.
