Chances are its one of those spam phone calls from India, damned things are a nuisance.

Eg:

Them: This is technical department. You have a problem with your Windows computer.
Me: How can I help you?
Them: Pause...We have detected a problem with your Windows computer.
Me: Yes, how can I help you?
Them: Longer pause...Would you like us to fix the problem?
Me: Yes, how can I help you?
Them: In order to fix the problem we will need your credit card details.
Me: Yes, how can I help you?

I can keep this up for hours.... :haha:

Or I tell them that I am the technical department, they then tell me that they are, and I tell them that I am, and if they tell me where the problem is, I will fix it if they give me their credit card number. :haha:

*chuckles with Scalawag* I note something along the lines of "I need to put the phone down for a few minutes, I'm cleaning one of my revolvers." I go away and make a sandwich or summat and come back and they are usually not there. ;o)
regards,
Painless

As with Painless I find the "OK, thanks for telling me. Please wait while it boots up....." Wander off..... Come back after a minute or so and if they're still there say it's still booting. After 2-3 minutes admit it's now running and ask for instructions. As I use Linux at work I then plead ignorance of the Start button and (to really cause hassle) a GUI browser. Never got to the next step of asking for a DNS code to connect to their web page.

Best response to a cold caller I've heard is when the guy receiving the call pretended to be a detective at a murder scene and demanded to know how the caller knew the murder victim etc. Ended up with the caller thinking he was a suspect in a murder investigation and he'd have to go to a local police station for questioning.
