Good day fellow tankers!

I need a little bit of your help here. Especially for those who have done their own zimmerit for the early Jagdpanthers (grid-type). My question is, approximately how big are the gaps between lines of the zimmerit? Or to try and re-phrase my question..... since the final figure generated is tile-like, how big should I make the tiles? I plan to make my zimmerit tool for this build. It would be in the form of a rake, and the space between the teeth would generate the grid. Thanks in advance for whatever assistance you may give!

best way to do it is count the number of squares between 2 prominent points and adjust the tool too size,
if the line ( in red ) is say 8 squares then make your rake big enough to fit that same space on your jagdpanther and put six teeth in your rake...........

Hi I don't think there was a standard size for zimmerit on the jagdpanther as these photos show so I would say what you think you should do them the size you like but personally the size in the picture oz showed looks good.

yep i agree, there was no standard size so look at some reference pics and go with what looks right.......

007 & Oz: Thanks for your insight guys! Much appreciated! Was able to look it up further and found that zimmerit in rare cases was applied in the field, thus the irregularity in shape and finish in application. Atleast now, I have the option to go for the field or factory applied look. Thanks again!

As long as you're happy with it mate and it looks right to you, it's good - if anyone else likes it, it's a bonus. The best maxim in the world.

I am also going to build a Jagdpanther (just waiting for it to arrive). I too have a question on it...but more on whether to have the zimmerit on it or not. The tamiya version, I think, is a late version - having a bolted manlet as opposed to the early version having a manlet cover that is welded on. See attatched pictures.




The Heavy Jagdpanther that have the bolted on cover started production in Sept 1944 and I believe I read somewhere that this is when they stopped using zimmerit on it - like the photos below.





The photo of oz clearly shows a late version with zimmerit. I am now confused...lol.  :-\

Woah! I totally missed that part about the mantlet. Thanks for the follow up Glory71. Hope those who've built it could enlighten us.

Only the early Jagdpanthers had zimmerit and only in the tile pattern latter models didn't have zimmerit, some units like SwPz JagAbt 654 even changed the standard tool arrangements on there Jagdpanthers, of interest hear are the last two pictures they are both post war built under supervision of the British Army the last picture is a Jagdpanther from the SDKFZ foundation this has been restored using several hulls taken from firing ranges
