Hi  Guys,

I have just purchased a brand new HL Tiger s+ s with metal tracks. It cost me a weeks beer money, ran very well, looked great......and then I met you lot saw your tank fotos and decided to rip it apart....I hope you are proud of yourselves!

I have a list of upgrades or improvements that need doing....yet again your fault. Most of the parts can be bought or manufactured in the shed....... but looking on the websites I cant identify a product to copy Zimmerit.

Has anyone done their own Zimmerit finish, if so, what did you use please.

In USA they use a filler that I cant find in UK. I also read about using a gearwheel to roll across the filler to give the rippled marking on it... very clever

I see that there is a latex stick on Zimmerit finish, but notes on the web say that it does not accept paint readily. Also, the fact that it is latex means that it does not hold the paint over time....... what say you guys?

i used milliput and a screwdrive on my  late tiger 1 and my mid tiger 1 project

yep "Milliput" is the way to go and septon is the expert on it hopefully he might do a quick tutorial on it

This is probably the most asked question on any forum first you want lots of books or pictures of Tigers study the pattern and how it was applied until you see Tigers in your sleep next decide which of the two methods best suits you

Method 1 "Lazy Man's Zimmerit"
This is used by covering the surface with your paste some use tile adhesive or no nails then using a hacksaw blade drag the blade across the surface 5mm then pull the blade down a little carry on for another 5mm then down again carry on until the surface is complete with this method if you don't like what you have done simply wash away the Zimmerit and start again once you are satisfied leave to dry.

method 2 "Expert Zimmerit"
This is the bet method and takes far longer to complete for this it's best to use something like Milliput though I have used Humbrol filler the problem with this stuff is you can only cover a small area at a time and have to work fast, using Milliput mix the two putty's together roll flat then apply to the tank covering the surface you wish to work on now using a screw driver on a 45 degree angle from the top going down wards start making indentations until you reach the bottom next line start again and so on until you have done the surface you are working on, one good thing with Milliput is it has a long working time and if you aren't happy you can using a small amount of water smooth out the pattern and start again, it would be advisable to experiment on a test piece before working on the tank.

hi Rivetcounter hows the 1\6 tiger build going

very slowly haven't had chance to get much done over the last 2 weeks but will show more when there is something worth looking at.
