Although I have successfully used 400 motors on an RX14, and could undoubtedly use them on an RX18, I was wondering if anyone has installed 480 motors on an RX18? If you did, were there any problems or precautions?

Seems no one answered but I just ordered two of these to try out. Seems I will need to remove the gear boxes and cut out some of the metal fram on the stock units to fit them but should be doable. Now if it fries we will know in time but I will be adding a fan to mine to help out.

I have tried these Gruapner 480 Race BB motors, and Dietrich has them now for his KT. For all the trouble to mount these and the different Pinion gear size (480=3,2mm) (400=2.3mm) and the gearbox frame rail is to small. But the main issue will be pinion gear alignment, and finding the right gear for your mounting space.

The Graupner speed 400 race motors in my Tiger are tough,never stalled,and did drag the Jagdpanther backwards while Jagdpanther spun tracks and Tiger just kept dragging. They are a direct fit or easy to space if the pinion gear requires spacing as some will drag the first gear in certain gearboxes.

But Phil does sell both 400 and 480 with pinions, so which ever you decide jusr remember the shaft size is different and too post your experience. It was only the fact that I had a fan cooled board that I upgraded motors and did not suffer failure.

Well I just installed my new 480 motors but I just realized I dont have an rx-18 board..whoops. As far as I can say it was a PITA to install them and you do need to work to get the gear alignment right.
