Has anyone have any experience with this one ?

I just bought one off eBay, it is suppose to be 1/16 and quite well done. I have the same ones sold for couple of hundred bucks more which makes me wonder if I got a knock-off. Kyosho's own website doesn't really help as theirs has a RC car radio (rather than this cheapo looking traditional toy RC radio).

It would look nice for sure next to the Tamiya Type 10, but even for the modern tanks it will be a good companion and RC to boot.

That made some sense now. Thanks Kiaser. It was a novelty purchase so as long as it moves I am happy.

Thanks Kiaser. I will definitely play with it as is, but I am contemplating sticking a Clark board in it, replaced the top MG with a scale Dragon or TOW unit and put in IR battle....... :-)

I will programmed it as a soft skin vehicle class but should be able to whip it around and take pot shots at other tanks. I have two other "APC"s in the works and will show it off once they are done.

Kaiser, unfortunately both of the eBay seller cancelled my order and refunded my money and I am not planning on spending anything over $200 for the 4x4 version. I guess eBay in Japan is a little different. I think you purchase, they check stock and confirm, and then you pay. I jumped the gun on both and they have to cancel and refund my money. I am used to eBay buying where you pay right away and the seller won't list unless they actually have them on hand.

I am still looking if a two wheel drive one comes up.

Thanks Kiaser...... Pretty nice but I want something to go with my 1/16s so this is too bad. Also I think the Kyosho one is actually ABS plastic rather than the Poly whatever stuff shell that is used on RC like this one ?

kiaser,

Was talking to someone at RC Universe on selling his "real" one (with the real half 8 bottom from Kyosho) but then snap a toy one up from Amazon for $100. I think the toy one is better for my conversion so will keep you posted.

kiaser,

Got my "toy" version late last week and has been working on it for the past two nights. Tested out the Clark board before gutting it and it took some arm twisting to get it to work. Anyway, here are some pics. I kept the speaker and the little toy soldier with the MG on the roof, hook up the MG from Clark to it. I might add the IR so that it can "ping" other tanks on the battle field with the little MG. Might put in a TOW or something like that (Like my Bradley and M113) but it will still be a soft skin vehicle so one shot will take it out. The motor is a single 380 I believe, the front is a single 130 motor with gears. I have to use the single track mode on Clark to make this work (i.e. Ch1 controls left track and Ch2 controls right track. The single drive motor is driven off the right track control, and the steering is off the Left track control but I need to reduce the range so that it won't wreck the steering gears by over reving the 130 motor). Reuse the stock 3 way switch as well. Still have to figure out how to mount the battery but for the time being it is just sandwiched between the upper and the lower.

Thanks Kaiser....... The two nights was actually mostly thinking as the doing part was quite straight forward. It was tricky to remove the battery box. The Ch1/Ch2 business actually works out quite well. I have to set the radio (A Devo F4) to mode 3 so that the right stick controls the Throttle (Fwd/Back) and the Rudder controls left/right. The Ch1 from Clark was then mapped to the Rudder control, using normal/reverse setting to get the left/right turn correct, and then I adjust the limits on the Right Stick Rudder control on the radio so that it doesn't over rev the 130 and the gears even though there is a clutch already. So far so good.

I also just realized that there is quite a bit of room between the body and the lower chassis, so I will be using some velco to strap two battery on either side of the lower hull, one for the truck and maybe one for the FPV camera. Need to think some more about that.

Hopefully the 2WD is okay on the field. I would not have done any of this with the real half 8 chassis one. This is a toy so I just chop and rip away stuff as I pleased and not feel bad about it.
