Metal gearbox, grease or no grease?

I've read somewhere that some people run the plastic gearbox's dry.

I have a steel gearbox, my thought is to grease it. Was going to put generic grease in that I use on the motorcycle.

My question to you guys is, how do you run yours? Dry, greased, oiled? Aslo what brands/products do you use?

For plastic you want something like a boron nitrade compound grease like Tamiya Cera-Grease. It's what I've put in my Leopard 2A6 gear box which is mostly nylon but also works in metal. Also used finish line before as well which is a cycle chain grease.

Motor cycle chain spray is great stuff as it sticks to the gears better than other lubricants and doesn't spatter as much. Alway lubricate metal gears.

Don't know if you guys have it in the UK but I was thinking of trying this product called Lucas oil treatment. Its a SUPER thick oil additive that clings to gears and doesn't get thrown off just stays stuck to them. Just haven't had a chance to get it yet so every once in a while I hit mine with a shot of Balistol.

With the proviso that ALPHA always offers about it's affects on some plastics, Motor Cycle Chain Lube is my choice,
I should add that when this question was raised before, a model gearbox designer and builder made the same suggestion, that's good enough for me,
I perhaps should mention that as I have Suzuki 1200 Bandit in the garage there seems little point buying another lubricant when I have enough chain oil to start my own oil company! :haha: shaun

For those that are using chain lube how well does it stay on the gears and does it help to quiet them down any? I don't mind buying something so long as it works.
