Carrying on from where we left off:
Ok, let me know how you get on.
Decided to do some rougher ground running, mistake

Ran it over sharp chippings in the garden, stone stuck between track and wheels, result stripped gears in plastic gearbox. So I'm definitely up for a new gearbox now, will get the spigot wheels too. Not sure about metal tracks though makes it so heavy.

Sorry to hear about the gearbox but I've found once you start running these tanks outside they start to break.(unless you buy the all metal heavy duty stuff right off the bat.) Since you need new gearboxes I'd go straight to the 4.1 black hardened steel ones, don't bother with the white metal ones as they're only a little better then the plastic ones. Spend the little extra on the better ones now.
Metal tracks are much better then the plastic ones and once you upgrade to the 4.1 gearboxes with metal drive sprockets it'll run like a champ! At that point you may as well upgrade to metal road wheels and idler wheels too!

Just saw the parts in that other thread and thats what you want! Not the ones on ebay being sold by an obvious hard core drug user but the stuff from RCtanksde is perfect! I've ordered lots of stuff from them and I can vouch for them as being very good to do business with, they do not sell junk.
Get that stuff and some metal tracks and that little Bulldog will be all set to go anywhere outside! Just stay away from sand!

Weight is going to be the issue for sure. I have a whole new set of plastic wheels but think I may skip and get the metal ones and suspension. I will be running this all on a hard case LiPo battery for better power output. I have just bought a Tiger 1 and stripped it down to get some gremlins out of it so got a lot of metal parts to order

but the bull dog comes first. I hope the gearboxes arrive soon I will let youknow how they get on......

Weight? You guys want to talk about weight, on a tiny Bulldog?

My King Tiger weighs just under 20 pounds and that's AFTER I removed the metal turret! With the metal turret it was 22lbs/10kg for you metric folk. And you're worried about the weight of a Bulldog?
In all seriousness their is no way unless the whole thing is metal that a Bulldog will weigh too much for even just nickel batteries. The all metal suspension and running gear helps the tank look more the part of the real tank because the metal parts have a little more weight to them. Don't worry about metal running gear or tracks they won't be a problem for a 4.1 gearbox to move. I'd even think a 3.1 should be enough cause the Bulldog is such a small tank.

what a beast 20lbs

bulldog would never get that big for sure but I like to always get parts that can take the stress no problem is all

Quite right Silver, the metal suspension parts can take the beating of off roading MUCH better then the plastic versions can. Metal suspension and running gear has always been the first mod I do to a tank along with hardened steel gearboxes. Nothing worse then taking the tank to the park and stripping out a gearbox, steer clear from the white metal they're not much better then plastic and the hardened steel is only a few dollars more.
