Wires crossed

HI guys I just bought a tiger 1 off E-bay perfect condition £35 all in the box and still packaged Yay, the fella sold it as the elevation on the turret didnt work, I see what he means now. stick press forward I get the airsoft work as normal with recoil action (new to me) stick left turret left, stick right turret right, stick down......turret goes left

um thats not right. I could just as easy open it and find out whats going on and with some investigation etc but was wondering if it was a common issue with the RX18 or factory wiring so I know where to start.....
thanks

HI Silverstalker , It's not a problem I've encountered before , don't panic though .To me , it sounds like 1. a short in the turret wiring . 2, or just maybe in the TX - the wiring/soldering/ gimbal ? A look won't hurt

I agree with blimp....its a short or possibly a crossed wire in the turret.
I think that the RX18 works on providing "Earths" to circuits rather than supplying "Power" to them
SO if a wrong wire was connected to could lead to some very unusual results.

I shall start at the receiver and swap it with one I know that works.... cheers

Ok here goes, I swapped TX RX, no change, I swapped the turret cord from the RX18, no change, I swapped the RX18 for another and still no change.
all the wires in the hull section look fairly good no snags or bas joints ets
I moved on to the turret section and spilt it open,
take a look at the pics and see if it looks normal as I have nothing to compare it to
To my suprise is has metal gears and a smoke unit, another odd thing is the smoke unit dont work, as in it dont move dont smoke nothing, it is plugged into the RX18 but I thought these had an external on off switch?? my bulldog has (did) or is it on constant?...or am I missing where the switch is hidden..
would it harm it if I jumped it right from a 7.2 volt pack or does it need to be reduced through a BEC or something??
Also the battery tray makes for a hand part separator

Good Afternoon,
Almost sounds as if you have a 2.4Ghz RX and TX and the On\Off for the Smoker and adjustment for the Sound would be a couple of small buttons on the lower RH side of the TX. I see a non RX-18 Receiver board in your tank there tho' so I am nonplussed at what you have going on. Check inside the battery compartment for a Smoker switch if there is nothing on the lower hull or TX.
regards,
Painless

On the 2.4, is the smoke controlled from the tx?
As for the turret controls, easy way to test anything like this is to swap the RX18 for the older crystal one, if the tank functions normally then the tx is the problem, if the tank sill behaves the same way then its the wiring in the tank.
It sounds like the pot in the tx has been twisted round, this means that it is having the same effect as having a trim pushed to the limit. Best bet is to dismantle the tx and twist the l/r pot while moving the stick, and then the u/d one then fix them in place when you have them centered.
The elevation and turret rotation are seperate circuits. Look on the 8 pin, the end two wires, black and red can be traced all the way back the to rotation motor. You could wire them directly and it would still work.
The elevation and airsoft work off the next three, they share a common live, so one negative for airsoft, one negative for elevation, and one positive for both. If the live was faulty neither the elevation or the airsoft would work. They are both working so you know that they are both ok.
This leads us back to the fault being in the tx, which is always a possibility if the tx was dropped by someone and the stick wrenched in the process.
Just a suggestion, but it gives you somewhere to look?
This link tells you what the wiring does

I cahnged the transmiter and the problem is resolved... the elivation works with the controler I use for my bulldog, the problem is indeed with the transmitter.....
I am getting the idea that it has been wired front to back

P.S what about the smoker unit?? I can't find a switvh anywhere??

Glad to hear that it is now up and running.
As for the smoker, if you have the upper hull off, just trace the wires back from the RX18.
If it was a 2.4ghz originally then you won't have a switch as it is controlled from the transmitter ( I think?? - I don't have one). The only way around that would be to install a switch somewhere, and sort out the smoker wiring to match the old system.
If it was a crystal type RX18 you would simply trace the wiring back from the RX18 to the switch.
It depends how much you want a smoke unit, an awful lot of us take them out and put them in the parts bin, as they produce very little smoke, and often fail after a while. They are also an extra drain on the battery while they are running.
