German WWII Ral Colour Numbers

Hi,

Seen a few posts about people not being happy with their tanks shade and colours. I noticed on a lot of paints, they quote the Ral numbers. Looking for the ral numbers for the ambush camo for my Stug III, I came across this link. It gives the Ral numbers for standard german paints through out the years of WWII (hopefully correct). It does say that shades can vary a bit because of what they diluted the paste paint with. But its a good starting point for anyone that is looking for the correct paints that hasn't got a clue, like me :p

A helpful piece of work, thanks, I know that somewhere among my "Favourites" is a list of the approved colours but also the DATES the colours were first introduced or when they were phased out, I may look it up if anyone needs the information. shaun

Found it, quite useful because on the top of the table is a menu listing the different makers paint codes to help get a close match to the real colour.

It might help those of you trying to achieve perfection. :haha: :haha: :haha: shaun

So in my search for the correct ral codes in a aint range I came accross this company

http://www.acrylicosvallejo.com/

You can pick these up from Boyes for about £2 for 17ml. On the website they have a colour chart with the ral codes and other codes for non german shades.

Anyone used these before?

Vallejo make nice brush paints, water soluble unlike most of the alcohol based acrylics. The airbrush specific ones are a bit crap though and clog up the brush even when thinned.

I recently tried Ammo by Mig Jimenez and they're really nice paints both through the airbrush and used with a brush. Nice colour range as well.
