Quick Release

Does anybody have ideas about a quick release system for the upper hull on a HL Leopard ?
I don't want to have to undo the 8 screws everytime I want to lift the upper section off. I believe I've seen somewhere about using magnets and screws in the 8 holes, so that you can just lift it up with a little effort to overcome the magnets. Any other suggestions ? Thanks

Trailbiker, almost all of the quick release are from the Taigen metal lower hull. They would use a metal lip for the front, and then two of the posts from the HL upper for the catch and the quick release mechanism is on the lower. I think four of the screws is usually sufficient enough to hold the upper and lower together as long as they are spread out evenly. I either have the Taigen lower, or use the rare earth magnet method. I use the thicker ones (3.22mm thick) and the 6.4mm size, which actually fits exactly onto the lower mounting post. For the upper I also use the same magnet, but I use a aluminium tube (7.14mm) which fits exactly over the mount post and allow you to put in another magnet like this: (You do have to shorten the upper post to account for the thickness of the two magnets).
You need to give it a good tug to get the upper off, especially with the Leo since there is 8 point of contact. Never had any problems of falling apart in battle.

Would self adhesive Velcro work?

Michael has got that one covered, magnets on the posts is the way to go, it works a treat, that's what I also did to mine.

Hi, I would go with Michael's suggestion,If you go to
http://www.first4magnets.com/countersunk-magnets
These are countersunk drilled Neodymium rare earth magnets which you screw into place on the top of the plastic turret, Glue alone will not hold them. The size is 10mmx2mmx3mm
I would buy Product code F102N Pack of 10 £5.10, and Product code F102S Pack of 10, £5.10 and place one opposite the other for maximum effect

jarnice maybe you can enlighten on this as I never understood how the counter sink magnet would work in this case. The bottom post is never a problem for me since I just use the right size magnet that I can superglue (and they seem to hold most of the time) but the upper post if I use a countersink magnet, wouldn't the lower magnet be just touching the screws and not that counter sink magnet itself since it is smaller ? If you use smaller counter sink magnet then the screws would be too small for the upper post ?
I couldn't figure this out and that's why I use the aluminium tube and slide the tube and the magnet over the upper post. I would love to be able to just screw the top magnet in using countersink magnets, but I just don't think there is enough grip if it is just the screw head that the lower magnet is attached to. In fact I would just use the screws which I have done in the past as well.

Michael Hi, I use counter sunk screws that sit flush within the hollow of the Counter sunk magnet, top and bottom,The magnets both top and bottom are the same size. To make sure the screw holds I suggest filling the Turret with two-pack epoxy letting it dry then use the screw to finish the job.

Shaun, can you post a pic of your set-up ? I am still not quite sure how you can have counter sunk magnets on both ends, as they don't attached "screw ends" to "screw ends", so you cannot screw them into the upper and lower post and expect them to attach ? I must be missing something here.
